I bought a Remington 700 barreled action from a dealer. He said it came from Remington’s custom shop and was short chambered requiring a gunsmith to finish and set head space. So this morning I put the barreled action in a stock and then wanted to see how much if any of the chamber was cut. I got out a piece of brass and it fits completely into the chamber and the bolt locks down. Is this normal?

I find the longer in life I go, the less I know. If the barrel was put on at the custom shop, the cartridge is stamped on it, and the barrel is tight in the receiver, it seems highly unlikely that it is short chambered. Why would the factory send one out that way?

If the barrel isn’t lose, meaning you can turn it in and out by hand, and it headspaces new brass, if it were mine, I’d shoot it. As it is not mine, if you have any doubts, get someone to check it over for you.

Sounds like typical behind-the-counter-guy bunch of BS!

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
