Siting in a Trijicon RMR

Does anyone have any suggestions on easy ways to site in a red dot site for my rifle? I always find it a bit difficult to be as precise as I would like to be when siting in a red dot. Thanks in advance

waiting for good answers on this myself. I just picked up my first red dot (Leupold delta pro plus) and kind of curious about the best way to sight in.

I always just start close to get it on paper. Maybe 20yds or so. If you have a rest, take a shot. If you can see your impact, steady in the rest, then adjust the dot to your impact. Same concept as a one shot zero using a scope. Then I fine tune at whatever distance deemed necessary for that weapon. I have them on pistols, shotguns, and some rifles.

A reflex (red dot) sight can be sighted in using the same procedure as sighting in rifle scope by:

1. Remove the bolt or barrels to look through the bore.
2. Mount in a padded vice or rest(s) so that the barrel will remain stationary.
3. Adjust the barrel(s) so that you can see a distant (the more distant the better) reference point (target) in the center of the bore.
4. Adjust the red dot to that reference point.
5. Check to ensure that both the center of the bore and the red dot at the same distant reference point.
6. Take the rifle to the range and start shooting at a somewhat close distance, i.e. 50 yards instead of your desired 100 yards. If within a few inches of the aiming point, move to the 100 yard target and finish sighting in.

On a double, get close to large taget. Shoot one or both barrels.
Measure distance to put spot on according to mfg. info. Move to desired distance 60-70 yds. Adjust as needed.

I don’t know if this is the right way, but when I had my rifle in the gunsmith for warranty work , they used a bore sight tool to site both the express & fire dot , it was on the money @ 25-50-100 after minor adjustment

I used nearly the same process that @Mark A Ouellette described. Bore sight, then walk it out from 50 yards to whatever distance you want to zero.

I did this on a shotgun for turkey hunting, another shotgun for home defense, a semiautomatic pistol and an AR rifle. All good results.

My biggest issue was I couldn’t bore sight, so I started really close and worked my way out. Go slow and have a solid rest.

I used the bore sighting method for my 450/400 double. I placed a 2" diameter white cap from a sports drink bottle, 20 yards away. Set in a sturdy shooting vise, i aligned the right barrel on the cap, then adjusted the red dot (Trijicon RMR) on the cap.
At the range, I shot at 25 yards, was POI was within 3" of POA. Easy final adjustment, then went to 50 yards for final tuning.
It was easier than I thought, for a double.

I have a Leica Tempus on my 458 Lott. I just shot it off the sticks at about 50 yards, only took one or 2 shots to get it where I wanted. The 2 Moa dot will lay them in there pretty good at that range. Bore Sighting may speed up the process.
