I just returned home this afternoon from a very nice Cape buffalo and cull hunt with Justin Kemp, owner of @Africa Sun Safari. This hunt took place in The Limpopo Province, not too far from Thabazimbi. One thing I really found helpful is this area was only around 2 1/2 hours from Johannesburg, therefore, I did not have to overnight in Johannesburg.

I took a very nice 42 1/2” Cape buffalo, giraffes, zebras, steenbuck, impalas and a bush pig. I’m almost embarrassed to say this was my 18th trip to Africa and the first time I ever saw a bush pig.

Accommodations were absolutely wonderful, meals were very delicious, Justin worked very hard to ensure all aspects of my hunt went smoothly, and they did. I truly cannot think of one thing that could have been better.

Animals that stand out ‘quality size’ where I hunted are Cape buffalo, kudu, klipspringer and impala. Lots of zebras and other species as well.

Congrats and thanks for sharing!

Justin is a great PH and works hard to get the best trophies he can. I have hunted with him 2x and great results both times. The new place you hunted is really a great spot. Hunted a couple days there in May and lots of nice animals and the mountainous terrain is fun to be on. Looks like you had a great trip! Congrats.

Congratulations- especially on that monster buffalo.

Looks like a lot of fun-I like the idea of a trophy and a cull hunt combined. Glad it was another successful trip for you

Very impressive to this first timer.......18 times? I'll hafta live to 90 and the market is going to hafta help significantly for me to catch that?

Congratulations on a great hunt. 18 Safaris - that is amazing. Good for you to be able to make that happen. Not many people have that kind of opportunity. Most of us will only be able to do that through other’s hunt reports. Thanks for sharing.

Great buff, jealous on that bushpig, not been able to shoot one in 8 safaris.

Congrats :D Cheers:

Very nice, congrats!

Good job. Lots of us are envious of the number of times you’ve been to Africa. Good shooting. Congrats
Bruce

Thanks for sharing this hunt with us. Congratulations on your success.

I have to let you know that you are way behind on your hunt reports!:A Popcorn:

Was the buffalo also a cull?
Irrespective of spread soft boss young bull...
Not sure why they would offer a bull with future throphy potensial as a cull.....

I just got back from hunting with Justin who is an awesome PH. I had a chance to view his sustainable buffalo population. He would not be offering a cull hunt on a soft boss buffalo

As to the buffalo, a different property owner contacted Justin and ask if he had any interest in an immature cape buffalo. Justin said he did not know what the size of the buffalo was, but the price was a fraction of the normal cost, so off we went. When we both sorted out which buffalo needing taken, he was in a group of 5 in some thicker cover, Justin and I just looked at each other and smiled. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time when Justin took that call. So no, this was not in any cull package.

Yes, I hear you!! Truth is, several of my African hunts were between 1988 and 2002, and most of those outfits are out of business, dead or in prison! lol

To be clear that is not on Justin’s property where I hunted. “Another landowner asked”

Stories are still good to read. It's the hunting I'm after. :P Cheerleader:

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
