Safe travels.

Looks like you had a good time.

Excellent trophies! Can’t wait for more pictures and a report!

I will write up a review when unpacked and settled in a few days. I’m sure my office, emails, etc is going to be crazy this next week.... Also, I (as well as a few others like CAustin and ALambert) are going to write a full report on why NOT to fly Delta from Atlanta to JoBurg with firearms now....

Now you’ve got me worried about Delta’s 200 flights!

Ridgewalker- nothing bad happened to me but to my business partner in the hunting business- most certainly. As well as even worse happened to other AH members on here this most recent last 7-10 days. All having to do with traveling with the rifles

I would like to see another picture of the that eland. It looks like a tremendous trophy.

I’m still trying to catch up with work but planning on writing a report on the experience soon .

This particular eland was over a 3 hour spot and stalk. It is truly magnificent!! This is me with PH CJ Claasens as well as my cameraman Chris Esterhuizen.

Yes I d like to know what the issue was with Delta and traveling with firearms.

Regarding the Delta 200/201 flights, both my business partner as well as Art Lambert and Charlie Austin's rifles were misdirected and did not arrive in JoBurg. My buddy's double didn't get to JoBurg for 1 1/2 days (they actually sent the rifle from KC, MO to London on British Airways who then sent the rifle back to KC which was then sent on to Atlanta then to JoBurg). We were taking a group of 14 clients (only 2 of which had been to Africa before) so he had to stay for a full day in the Afton Guest House while we went on to Serapa. He had to have the additional transport cost to the concession.

In speaking with Art, he had a similar situation but didn't get his rifle for 2+ days and fortunately they (he and Charlie) were at Pawprint Safaris which is only about 2 hours from JoBurg airport I guess so had to make a few back and forth trips there while on safari. I guess Charlie didn't get his for like 4 days- I may be misquoting the exact amount of days however. But needless to say, this was a cluster. So if your final hunting destination is far from O.R. Tambo, you may be in for some trouble. This was my business partner's 27th trip hunting in Africa (he and Jacques Spamer are J-S Worldwide Hunting, LLC) and he will now NEVER fly Delta again- he hardly ever does anyway but a few of the clients did not want to fly Emirates to Dubai secondary to the whole religious customs (or threat of terrorism thing)- one had his 17 year old son with him and this was his FIRST airplane flight(s) in his life!

I will say that MY rifles both made it to and from on the trip. So I don't want to speak for allcomers. I usually never have a problem flying Delta when not carrying a firearm. The 2 clients with bows only had no problems either.

Hope this info helps and doesn't stir up a bunch of anxiety- may call Delta customer service in adavance (but I'm not sure how much that'd help anyway).

Good luck!-Nathan

Wow! What an eland!

Actually I got my rifles the next day along with Art’s dad. Art II didn’t get his until day 4. This all would have been a disaster if we hadn’t been close, two hours, from the airport.

I knew it was something like that lol!! Glad to see you’re feeling better buddy!!

Looks like a great time! Congrats and look forward to the full story!

I would love to take an Eland like that one. Beautiful bull. Congrats

Damn, that firearms screw-up sucks.

I'm not saying it would have helped much, but I use Delta's app to ensure my firearms make it onto my aircraft...and would pitch a fit if they weren't before I boarded. Now, not that me pitching a fit would impress the personnel at the counter.

I use the app as well as talk to the desk attendant in Atlanta (departed from KC) to make sure my rifles were on the ATL to JoBurg flight prior to take off. Great advice to others!

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
