Was fortunate to travel to Spain last month and accomplish the Slam. for whatever reason a trip last August with Bonnet Plume outfitters for Dall Sheep in the Yukon got me on this crazy sheep/goat quest. I am obsessed with doing the hard stuff while my battered arthritic knees can take the hiking.
So, even during the Dall sheep hunt I was thinking about the sheep slam (working on it) but then called Global Sporting Safari's Derek Amadio at Rick Kennerknecht request (also w Global) and we came up with a 10-day trip plan.
I flew from San Antonio to Paris (got a Yotel room for 5 hrs sleep) and then headed to Valencia where i met my guide/interpreter and driver Marius Nilca who took me to the La Espadella lodge owned by Jose Louis Falonir about 3 hrs NE of Valencia near Cati.
So, get out your google maps. Here are the locations for the 4: Beciete- Monroyo, Sierra Neveda/Grenada-- Velez de Benaudalla, Ronda -- Cortes de la Frontera and Gredos in Madrigal de la Vera inside the Sierra de gredos Regional Park.
All in all we drove quite a bit. Had rather crummy weather with intermittent rain, cold, gusty winds and some great hikes and vistas. heck, it snowed in Madrid. We stayed at 3 and 4 star (out of 4 stars) hotels or lodges and had great food. Great wine and as you can tell from one photo below, great fun as we serenaded the restaurant after the Ronda harvest.
