Hello all

I have a 9.3 x62 project on a Mauser 98 with a Douglas number 5 barrel that I’m looking for a set of stock plans for. I have Jerry Fischer American sporter plans and they seam kinda thin on the forend with the heavy barrel. Can anyone point me to a book or plans that’d help?
Thanks
J

Hard to go wrong with a Jerry Fisher designed stock.

The only book on stocking rifles that I recall was written by Monte Kennedy. I don't think I have a copy, but I'll look. It may be a bit dated by now.

Gunfitting- by Michael Yardley. Stackpole 2006. Thoughtful book-length treatment of shotgun and rifle stocks and their fitting, with good photographs.

The Book of the Springfield- by E.C. Crossman. Samworth 1951. Author discusses stocks for sporters in detail with opinions on design and dimensions.

Gunsmithing- by Roy F. Dunlap. Samworth 1950. Several chapters on stocks from design to build with sketches and photos.

The books by Yardley and Dunlap may be easiest to find, at least in the U.S., and bring the most focus to the subject of stocks. Crossman's discussion is quite useful but is more limited in scope. All three have been valuable resources for me.

You may want to reach out to @AZDAVE. I believe he built a beautiful stock for a similar action and caliber.

Richard's Microfit makes a classic sporter that can be turned into a decent approximation of a traditional European stock. Here's one that I built for an old whitworth. Just don't expect them to be a snap fit. There is a lot of work to make the finished product

Final inletting is probably maybe 6-8 hours. Glass bedding was another 2 hours. Reshaping, finishing then checkering the stock was probably 30-40 hours.
