To each their own, but the whole tactical lever action trend just makes no sense to me. What's the draw? Are they just great fun to shoot or what? From a practical standpoint, why not just use an AR platform?

Might be a little overboard but the removable clip would allow leveractions to use a more variety of bullet styles, open its use in moore calibers, optics, and easier and quicker reloading.

IMO, I'll stick with the nostalgia concept of the original style saddle gun leveractions.

I'm trying to picture myself cycling that lever 30 times in a row.

Let's just say not as fast as a semi auto. But the follow up shots would allow for better accuracy.

Or perhaps a little extra metal, you know a collapsible burr on the lever just in front of the trigger, as in the TV western series The Rifleman.

I keep a 45-70 lever gun as a camp and fishing gun.
I keep a TLR1 on the gun for helping me see what goes bump in the night. I also have a red dot optic on the rifle. I find the tactical features handy. My rifle has a wood stock and I just added what I needed for function.
If I was buying a new rifle I’d probably just buy a tactical version and be done with it.

They are just plain fun! My brother has one he calls the space cowboy in .357 mag. He put a suppressor on it and shoots .38 special subsonics out of it. Literally everyone on the range giggles shooting it. We even slapped a IR laser on it and shot it with night vision on. So much fun. Would probably make a fun hog gun too.

Then again I appreciate all guns mostly. Everything from AR-15s and carbon fiber to classic walnut and blued steel all have a place in my house.

This answer makes me want to try one out. :)

I agree, they don't seem to make a lot of sense. The one thing I can see though is that it is amazing impossible to buy an AR or AK based rifle or any other semiautomatic with a detachable magazine. In Washington, where I live, you v we n my 10/22 is now classed as an "assault rifle" by vote of the people. Yeah, I know, they didn't know what they were voting for, but there it is. In order to buy any semiautomatic with a detachable mag now, you have to take a class before hand. I have an AR but I cannot now sell it within the state. If you really want to go "tacti-cool" a lever action may be a way to do it.

Lucas McCain (aka Chuck Connors) was doing it 60 years ago!

If the action were able to withstand 300WM or 375H&H pressure levels, they would be a much more viable alternative.

The anemic ballistic performance 30-30 and 45-70 are of little interest to most serious hunters. I’m not saying they don’t have their place, they absolutely do. But the overwhelming majority don’t choose this as their platform.

If they really want to attract NEW consumers, they need modern cartridge options. Show me a 300PRC lever action because putting a Picatinny rail and black polymer stock on one is merely lipstick on a pig.

I agree, it’s like owning a Hyundai and doing performance upgrades on it.

Desperation to try and do something different that will sell

What's the draw?
US market is flooded with everything gun related.
So, this was not offered yet.
Now, they try with that.

John Wayne (and others)

The Tracker from John Wick played by Shamir Anderson

The Terminator

They are fun to shoot and definitely have their place as mentioned in control states but the “coolness factor” perpetuated by Hollywood is what drives the sale of those rifles. IMO
