Takedown case

I'm considering my options for a TSA-approved takedown rifle case, and have it narrowed down to either the Pelican 1700 Protector or the Nanuk 985. Both are similarly priced (within about $20 of one another) and appear to be of similar high-quality construction.

Just curious what your experiences have been, and how well they hold up over time.

For what it's worth, I already own a Pelican Protector (different size) and have been pleased with it so far. I also looked at the V700 Vault which is much less expensive but it seemed to be a bit flimsier.

I am a fan of the Pelican Protector series. I have many different cases. I only have the one take down case for my Blaser R8. Like the rest it is super heavy duty and is a neat way to travel. I don't use it near as much as my two rifle Pelican however. It is just so much more versatile. You are allowed 50 pounds typically with most airlines and with the two rifle case you can pack a few more things with the rifle/rifles. The issue that is brought up, ad naseum , that technically those 2 rifle cases are over the L/W/D of the airlines is a non issue.
That said I can't argue that it doesn't feel pretty smart easing along with the little take down case!

Pelican 1700 would be my choice. Wife and I own two of them and wouldn't trust anything else with our firearms.

That black case looks just like the one I wish I had kept! LOL!

Older Pelican 1700 with two lock holes. Lots of rough handling and miles. Complete protection, never failed. Easy for inspectors to check serial numbers and contents. Has wheels with handle opposite end from wheels. Plus handle in the middle for easy carry as shown in pic.
27 lbs total weight with 11 lb DG rifle. Outside dimensions roughly 38" x 18" x 6"

Thanks for the input, gentlemen. They both seem to be good quality, but I can find the Nanuk locally whereas the Pelican would need to be shipped in. It's just that I've never encountered the Nanuk brand and am thus, unfamiliar with how well it holds up. Online reviews are favorable, but one never knows how many are legitimate these days.

I've had good luck with Pelican in the past, so perhaps this will be an instance of "dance with who brung ya."
