What paperwork is required to take my rifle to South Africa. Ie flying with BA to Johnnasburg. Also what is required from the Uk Boarder Force.
Thanks

A couple of things to clarify as it's hard to work to where you are from and therefore your likely starting point. Are transiting the UK on the way to SA? Are you a Brit and therefore a holder of a UK Firearms certificate?

I can help you understand the process if you're a Brit taking guns to SA but I've no idea what needs to happen if you're transiting the UK

Hi
I am based in the Uk and the rifle in question is on my Uk fac

Ok - easy. I'd think about using Virgin over BA though.

Send an email to BFLHRFirearms@homeoffice.gov.uk that cover the following

Dear Sir/madam

I'm visiting South Africa between XXX- XXX and wish to take firearms. Please would you issue a 'Letter of Temporary Export' for the following guns

Rifle 1:
Whatever the rifle is
Rifle 2:
Whatever the rifle is

50 rounds of xxx and 50 rounds xxx ammunition will also be exported.

I have attached copies of:
- Application form (which is really simple and can be downloaded)
- Copy of the ID page of my Passport
- Copy of the Letter of Invitation from the hunting agent
- Copy of my flight itinerary
- Copy of my full Firearms Certificate

Many thanks for your help.

Kindest regards

Drop me a PM with a phone number and I'll talk you through the whole process. I've just done one for April and sent off the email on Monday and got an email last night saying it had been posted! Very impressive.

won't he also need to get a permit from SAPS also?

Yes, he'll also need a SAPS 520

Who is your outfitter, surely he should be able to assist you with this?
www.riflepermits.com Henry will assist no problem.

I have been using him for well over a decade.
My best Always.

I would contact Jennifer at Travel Express 1-406-363-0883 and she will help you out, she can also set you up to stay at African Sky and Gilbert who handles your meet and greet at the airport is great getting you thru SAPS. have you booked your flight yet? if not let Jennifer handle it for you her fee is only 150.00us and she will take good care of you

Thanks for the plug!!

Lots of good info above, and yes the OP must get SAPS 520. Henry does a great job (permit only) and the folks at Africa Sky are wonderful as well (accommodations and permit). Doing it on your own is an option, but I think it's well worth it to have an expeditor!

Welcome to AH and the posting side! Congrats on your trip and have fun!

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
