In our neighboring country, the Czech Republic, the lights are going out in the hospitals.
A hunting friend there is not getting his long overdue surgery because all intensive care beds are overcrowded with covid patients.
These have a 7 day incidence of almost 900 !!!!
For comparison, Germany has 72 cases of infection and we go crazy with them.

I'd much rather have my countries economy in tatters (temporarily) than have sick people walking around that don't follow basic health guidelines and have poor hygiene. For all the shit Africa gets, the cliche of people spreading disease has a lot of truth.

“Temporarily” went from 21 days to indefinitely and still continues. It will be interesting to see how and which economies actually fully recover. The businesses that have already gone bankrupt will not.

Human lives are more important than the economy. Not saying small businesses don't matter, they absolutely do, but you have to remember that this pandemic never had to happen in the first place. The reason it got so out of hand is due to first-world countries' ineptitude and sense of immortality, now the whole world is paying the price and I don't want one of my neighbours (Tanzania) to become a hot spot.

Easy . . . yours died from car crashes, old age, pneumonia, chronic illness. Ours died from all the same reasons too except dying with covid was marked as dying of covid. We also tested a much greater number of people. Covid isn’t going away, we need to live our lives. Governments taking more and more of your freedoms isn’t going to make things better.

Absolutely, but America having fewer gun laws than any other country doesn't make it any freer. The fact that Covid was even made into a political topic is laughable. I went through both 1958 and 1969 pandemics and got the flu - the first one was the worst, think I may have built up some immunity for the second. There were no masks handwashing distancing quarantines etc but we survived, the only difference being covid-19 has lasted longer, that's why I suspect it was engineered.

I knew my comments would eventually rile someone up. Spike.t, FYI, my family is entirely self-employed, meaning that I would know what it was like for those failing businesses. My father runs a reputable but small rod-making company, for several months he was forbidden to do business with any clients overseas. I think I'd know more about the financial stresses of lockdown than you would, considering you run a highly reputable and, I assume, successful safari outfit. No hard feelings, I'm very fond of you, but wind your neck in.

When it comes to suicide and depression caused by Covid, I myself have suffered from clinical depression since the end of 2018. 2020 was almost the breaking point for me, though not due to Covid specifically. It's why I joined AH in the first place. Listen, I know you're trying to look out for people who are unfortunate, but you really don't have a clue what's like to feel depressed. Though I may be entirely wrong on that, if so wrong then I apologize in advance. Even then, I'd much rather be in lockdown than have millions of terminally-ill people die from a *MOSTLY* nonlethal disease.

It's mostly due to her stupid life decisions, like being a life-long smoker since 20 years of age. Even then, a surprising death in the family wouldn't be fun in the slightest. A few months after lockdown, she was diagnosed with dementia caused by her idiotic heavy smoking.
