Hi All,

I received my taxidermy back from Bull's Eye Taxidermy in S.A. (Vaalwater / Limpopo) yesterday. I chose Bull's Eye Taxidermy on the strength of the reviews on the AH forum.

Crating and shipping was done by African Legacy Logistics. They were recommended by Bull's Eye. African Legacy Logistics ended up being more than $100 USD cheaper than AHG (even with the AH discount).

I found both Bull's Eye (I dealt with Carien) and African Legacy (I dealt with Brett) to be fairly priced and exceptionally responsive when it came to communications. I would recommend both.

Outside of having a broker prepare my tax form for Canada Customs, I did the rest of the customs clearing and leg work on my own upon arrival in Toronto (YYZ). This saved me about $375 CDN in brokerage fees.

My hunt was in June 2018 (turn around was 11 months) at SS Pro Safari in Limpopo SA. My PH was Nico van Graan who was excellent. It would be a privilege to hunt with Nico at SS Pro again. This was my second African hunt (my first was in Namibia). The write up on my taxidermy from Namibia can be found here:

I am exceptionally happy with the Brown Hyena skull mount. My bushpig was a stud and I'm thrilled that I made the last minute decision to get the hide done. The quality of the euro mounts and hides are excellent. All in all, very pleased.

In terms of cost:

Total taxidermy bill was $1,191.50 USD
Total crating/shipping was $659.52 USD
Airport Handling Fee (Swissport) $100.00 CDN
CFIA Veterinary Inspection $25.00 CDN

Thank you AH Community. Hopefully someone can learn a little something from this in partial pay back for all the information I've benefited from over the past several years.

Cheers,

do the skulls appear to have been "bleached" in other words was the bone made white thorough a chemical process, or where they painted white?

Yeah they looked painted but I wasn’t sure. Not saying this happened with yours but sometimes in the taxidermy world skulls get painted because the grease was not or could not be removed from the bones. Just keep an eye out for grease stains appearing in the future.

Glad you are happy with your trophies.
Thanks for sharing your shipping and taxidermy tale.

Congrats..Does 11 months seem like a long time to anyone else for euro mounts and one skin? Curious.

Nothing like Christmas in May.....

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
