Just wanted to make people aware of this. Bought 600 bullets today at significant savings.

If you have a .458B&M, I hope you bought some of those 260gr 458 SOCOM'S. Getting 2900fps with great accuracy out of those.

Bought 200 250gr along with tips. I also bought 200 450gr solids and 200 420gr raptors all in .458 for a 458B&M that is getting built.

I use H4198 with the 258gr SOCOM's, but that should work well with the 250gr Raptors. I use AA2520 for the big heavies with great accuracy. And my velocities match Michael's data on his website.

If those 250's for some reason don't give you one ragged hole accuracy at 100, give the SOCOM's a go. Easy 200 yard bullet. Somewhere between 200 and 300 yards, the low BC catches up to the bullet and the drop gets pretty serious.

Yeah, Michael's data for 250gr bullets also uses H4198. For the heavier bullets I think I will use IMR-8208 as I have a boatload of it, and not any of the others. It will be a while though, first SSK has to finish the work and then it goes to the stock maker for another 6 weeks or so. I will probably not get my hands on it before April.

Only if the following does NOT work. Want to try a Mannlicher style stock from MPI stocks, they do have a "super magnum" fill and will also put a Monte Carlo on it as well, not to mention they do make them for the lefties. I'll have SSK send the barreled action to them, and they will do a complete stock job on it.

I just literally "bit the bullet" yesterday and ordered a press. So I'm getting into reloading!

Is this one of those deals that just can't be passed up, especially for big bores like my .458 Lott? Not sure what to buy!!! LOL

For me it was. I saved over $300 on bullets I was going to buy.

Now, for your 458 Lott, I'd recommend basically the same bullets I bought for my 458B&M. 450gr Safari solid for elephants and cape buffalo, and 420gr Safari Raptor for other DG (first shot on buffalo and cats). Now, I think 458 Lott has a bit more case capacity than the 458B&M so 500gr solid most probably would work as well. Personal preference, go big and a bit slower or a tad small and go faster, the muzzle energy would probably be equal between the two solids. Elephants won't be able to tell the difference .

I might should buy some, just because, but I have a feeling I will be doing a lot of that with bullets here over the next few years. Not knowing yet wat the gun likes etc though I hate to just buy up.

And even with the 30% off the Raptor seems to be about the same price as a Barnes TSX if I did the math right?

I don't know how pricing compares to Barnes TSX. I am sold on CEB bullets as far as their performance and accuracy is concerned. Basically, one hole three shot groups at 50 yards. On a recent hunt the 500gr solids in .500 caliber penetrated 6'+, and 10'+ into elephants. Can't ask for a better performance than that. Below is the test target prior to my hunt with the 500gr solids, offhand, 50 yards using EOTech XPS-3 holographic sight (no magnification). Two shots was enough to proceed with the hunt.

Barnes is around $25 per 20 count for the TSX. The problem is that as I'm sure you know, you can't get the banded solids due to ATF's ultimate wisdom. I have enough .375 banded solids that I got lucky and found, but I will need solids for the Lott. I have plenty of time, unfortunately. My next DG hunt probably won't be until 2018, MAYBE 2017.

Maybe I'm buy a few to at least begin to mess with at some point. I'm going to save the serious reloading efforts with the Lott for a little ways down the road regardless.

Tanks what velocity are you pushing those 500gr bullets at?

i keep wanting to buy some CEB bullets but i have a surplus of Barnes and Swift bullets for my 416 so its hard to justify more bullets. if they had heavier .505" bullets id pick those up but as it is im not really looking for bullets under 570gr. when it comes to DG i prefer the "slow and steady wins the race" philosophy with my cartridges.
