The day Gamagara burned....

One of our old friends/client, Ed Brosius, returned to Wintershoek after 12 years! Obviously a lot has changed since 2006 when Ed last hunted at Gamagara. Very few people know this. But the lodge actually burnt down in 2012... Here is what happened....

In 2011, it was decided to renovate and expand the old lodge at Gamagara. Everything was on track and the newly renovated lodge was in the final stages of completion. Everyone was filled with excitement about the new lodge at Gamagara.

And then came the night that we will never forget... Just when everything was about done, something went wrong with the electricity and the entire lodge burned to the ground. Because Gamagara is about a 30-minute drive from the nearest town with a fire department, they could not get to the lodge in time.

Even with the best efforts of all the farmers in the surrounding area, the fire could not be stopped in time. The flames simply were too big and were spreading to fast. This was a very sad day in the history of Wintershoek.
But with sad endings comes new beginnings. It was then decided to completely demolish what was left of the lodge, and built a whole new lodge.

Thus a lot has changed since the last time that Ed hunted Gamagara! This time round Ed brought along his friend, Ray.

Between the two of them, they took some great trophies. Our chef, Divan, also treated them to some of his very best dishes and deserts.

We look forward to welcome Ed and Ray back at Wintershoek Safaris in the near future.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.
