I have always wanted a .405; alas, I "settled" for a .30-06 when I bought my 1895. Perhaps I dodged a bullet. A very expensive bullet. :E Dancing:
As to bullets, Hornady has made a new run for the .405, see them on GB recently. Bullets that is, not ammo.

Own 4 of them, the Teddy Roosevelt pair, a new 1895 to shoot so I don’t shoot the Teddy Roosevelt one and a Ruger number 1.
Depending on how much you like recoil, the Ruger can be loaded to equal the .450-400 levels with 400 gr bullets, as in 400gr. x 2100 fps.

@sestoppelman
Someone is very very desperate.
That's absolutely stupid to pay that price.
Bob
Desperation is the word. When things are not available, people will pay whatever they must to get it. Hornady has not made brass for the .405 for some time.
Loaded ammo is often listed for over $10 a round too.

Another reason why prices won't come down.
Exactly! People with too much money and NO common sense! It's the "I have to have it NOW mentality". Same reason a new Dodge Ram diesel is going for well over $100K now. I've passed up factory .338WM ammo going for insane prices. I'll just reload for it and/or shoot another rifle. The only thing I need NOW at any prices are food, gas/diesel and shelter.

Truly insane..

Makes me very happy that I stocked up on brass, bullets, etc for the most part prior to the current craziness..

I found myself a little short on powder and primers.. but have managed to rectify that as well over the last 18 months without too much pain..

I should have enough to get me through at this point until I take a final dirt nap..

That said.. my truck is getting a bit old (10x years and 200,000 miles).. and I am really dreading having to go talk to someone about a 1500 Ram or Tundra in the next year or two (Im going to drive the current truck until the wheels fall off.. but.. my best guess tells me I have less than 24 months before that happens)..

Well, if would make you feel any better when you have to buy a new truck in the future, I'll sell you some Norma .416 Taylor head stamped brass for $400/50 NOW. It's gotta be as rare as Hornady .405 Winchester brass? LOL

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Thankfully I am WAY set on my DG rifles.. I'd have to go out and inventory.. but I think I have 3x boxes (10 count) of norma solid factory ammo that I bought specifically because it was crazy cheap.. I knew I'd just use it as range fodder, and then would have the brass for reloading... Im pretty sure I've got 50x pieces of norma factory 416 T brass (already loaded up).. and then at least 100 pieces of 458 WM brass that has been resized to 416 T.. Considering I probably shoot 20-30 rounds of 416 T a year.. I should be set for life..

I dont even want to think about how over set I am for the 375 H&H... There has to be at least 100 rounds of ammo in the locker already loaded for it.. and at least 200 pieces of primed brass that I just havent gotten around to loading yet.. the 375 gets shot about the same amount as the 416 T.. so.. a lifetime of ammo/reloading already on hand..

At this point I honestly should probably just sell off all of my reloading gear lol.. I have gone pretty crazy on the bench over the last 24 months.. I'd bet I have 300+ hunting rounds of 308 already brewed up.. at least a couple of hundred 30-06.. Maybe 200 rounds of 270.. at least 150 rounds of 300 H&H, etc..etc..etc..

I could go to the range weekly and shoot a couple of boxes of deer/PG type ammo.. and still have plenty to last me I'd guess 5-6 years...

At the rate I currently shoot.. Im going to guess Im dead long before the ammo runs out :ROFLMAO:

The supply and demand at it's worst, can't believe that someone paid that for 50 rounds of brass.

@mdwest Hey brother you are in Texas, didn't you get the memo you should have at least 3 lifetimes worth of ammo loaded:A Outta::A Stirring:

I did the same thing. The components for loading the 405 were just too hard to get and too darned expensive. The 30-06 makes a great lever gun for all round hunting. If I ever come across reasonable priced 405 fodder or brass, I might then buy the gun but not the other way round.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
