I was lucky enough to shoot a common Duiker and a steenbok on my last safari. I had intended to do full body mounts on these guys, but the taxidermist is asking $1500 for each one. Does anyone have any recommendations on alternative, preferably cheaper, ways to display these little guys?

I had mine done in RSA, probably didn’t spend $1500 together. TT are the only things I would full body anymore unless I kill the perfect bushbuck or could ever afford to hunt a bongo.

I like half mounts for the tiny ones. Should reduce taxidermy price by approx 30%. No 50% as most would assume.

Buck wild, who did your mounts?they look good, any trouble getting the guinea fowl in yeh country?

Wall pedestal

This is a steenbok. As @Connor Baumgarten suggests small shoulder pedestals are both attractive easy to place. I have an Oribi done in exactly the same style. Great for a bookcase or bar top.

Wow...those little shoulder pedestals are beautiful! They really showcase the ears, which are one of my fav things on the tiny 10.

I’m doing several shoulder pedestals (desk pedestals) on my Tiny 10. I’ll probably do a couple of full body mounts on some like Blue Duiker, Oribi, etc. I think sometimes an Oribi can be confused with a Steenbok if not done as a full mount and someone isn’t really into the TT. Personally I’ll always have mine skinned for a full body, since I can change the mount decision down the road but can’t get the cape back if it’s cut too short.

@gizmo is currently mounting a steenbok I shot as a desk pedestal. He sent a preliminary picture the other day before he finished. I’m sure he’ll post a few pictures to give you some reference.

Good advice to get the full skin as you can always make that decision later. I look forward to having at least one full mount on the TT...maybe the Sharpe's grysbok or dik dik...but nothing is quite as cool as the klippie on his tip toes!

My Klippie is getting a full mount on his toes just like you described. I’ll need to decide shortly what to do with my Cape Grysbok, Oribi, and Blue Duiker.

We have had full mounts done a several, wall pedestals on a couple more, with 2 being done as shoulder mounts. All of them look good. I have never regretted having a full mount done. waiting on taxidermy to be completed on 3 (Damara Dik-Dik, Oribi,Cape Grysbok) Hunting for our last three next year.

Dave, can you share some examples to show the differences?

Those look great. I'd also love to hunt a bongo, but I am running out of sale-able organs.

That one is mine. I made a pile of those mahogany bases and have klipspringer on one and intended to mount some more small guys using those bases. Full mounted a common duiker and would rather have just this table style mount.

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
