Trail Cameras Questions

I am interested in finding out what cameras people are using to hunt with.
I know everyone is likely hunting their butts off, but I'll ask anyway.

What issues have you encountered?

Are there any features that seem to cause issues/problems for you?
Do you see the cats getting trained to the red light coming on?
Do they get camera shy from seeing the light?

Wireless or SMS capability?
Obviously plenty of coverage issues.

What brand or model do you find works best for you?

I am trying to compare some new offerings and technology and determine their usefulness to hunting in Africa.

Hi Brick

The 2 PH's from Africa that i chat with use the black led's ones.

The red light one's were chasing animals away.

Spypoint infrared - invisible black led's - is what one purchase while here 1.5 years ago.
They are about $200

Did they care about video capability?

i did not ask about video.

The camera set up i viewed were single shot pictures. I did not see any videos while i was there.
My PH's for this year has 1 to 2 setups in the field, i asked if my PH if he wanted me to bring one over, he indicated he was set with the 2 he had.

I am Not sure how they set it up for taking pictures.

Memory cards were used and down loaded on to a computer for viewing to get a better or bigger picture. Looking at bush pigs they were looking to find the best boar - cameras at each bait location.
For leopard, camera was set to make sure they could identify if it was a male or female at bait locations. Usually they waited to place the camera until the bait was hit or moved their camera to a bait after a bait was hit. In they had multiple baits out and only 2 cameras moving the camera was a given.

I have never been to Africa but... I use trail cams a lot on my bear baiting stations and I have found Big Game Innovations cameras to be about the best for the money. I use the 4 and 6 series cameras and they work as well as any that I have tried. Bears (especially cubs) are really hard on cams so I go through a couple every year. After having several of the more expensive cameras chewed up these work as well for under $100. They will do pics or vids and you can change all the settings including sensitivity, flex times you want it on, and pic quality. Also like the SD cards so I can swap out cards every couple days and take them home to view on the computer. I have never been able to use a camera with the wireless feature because of cell coverage issue but I could see where it would be a cool feature if it works.
