Transit South Africa to Namibia

Good day Gents,
Next month we'll be flying to SA for a few days of wing shooting followed by a flight from Joburg to Windhoek for a week of plainsgame.
We have hunted in SA many times as well as in Namibia.
On all these trips we had direct flights into Joburg, resp. Windhoek from Europe.
Next month will be first time to combine the two.
Does anyone have any helpful hints and tips on the import of guns from Sa into Namibia and back

Hi Bwana

You will need a South African form 520 to fill our for your rifles and shotguns. I suggest you use a rifle service to assist you as they will help you when you check in to leave South Africa.

In Namibia you will need to obtain your rifle and shotgun permits.

I am assuming, that you will be flying direct or non stop on your return home and you will just need to check your guns through.

Hopefully we will be able to check everything trough to Amsterdam

You'll need a permit to get through Amsterdam with guns. Don't forget it.

The importation of firearms into Namibia for a hunting trip is a doddle. You should have a letter of invitation. You are only allowed 80 rounds of ammunition per firearm.
You do have to complete a form which your outfitter can forward to you but if memory serves me correctly only sign in in the presence of the police/customs in Windhoek.
On your return flights you should ensure that your airlines have inter airline baggage handling agreements. This is so that you can check everything the whole way through.

We have covered the things you mentioned and outfitter will take care of the ammo, which we will either use up or leave behind when we go back.
