This report is about A hunt several years ago. I spoke with a friend of mine today that I hunted with in Alaska and it made me think I should share that because While it's not Africa it was a hell of a hunt!
So I hunted with Jim Phillips of Annahootz adventures. We flew into ketchican Alaska spent the night and the next morning took a float plane to Craig Alaska. Jim met us at the dock where we loaded up on

A commercial fishing Boat to head to prince of whales. The boat would be our base camp for the next 10 days! The landscape was beautiful and sight's breath taking. We saw sea otter, whale, All kinds of bald eagles.
It was amazing! We would live on the 50' fishing boat while we hunted from 16' skiffs. All spot and stalk just like my hunt in Africa! The surroundings were rugged just like our guides, these guys live a hard life. We would fish during the day and hunt afternoon's and evenings. we ate what we caught and that was awesome! staying on a boat for ten days was an adventure in itself but the hunting was crazy. we would scan the shores as we cruised island after island and when we would spot a good bear we used the wind and would beach a mile away and try and stalk back. These guys can smell like anything and these were some of the most challenging stalks I've ever put on. There were four of us hunting on the boat and we were all successful. My bear squared around 7'6" and my brothers squared over 8'. we ate like kings, fished and crabbed by day and hunted late! hard to beat!
If you want to hunt really big bear and have a great time doing it, I cant say enough about Jim Phillips and Annahootz adventures!

That would be an adventure.
Thanks for sharing your tale.

Kevin, those are huge black bears at 7’6” and 8’ squared!
Congratulations! That sounds like something I’d enjoy!

It really was a blast and Jim was a great guy to hunt with. Jim was very reasonable compared to all the other boat based hunts we looked at

Kevin, thanks for the post...........................did the big boat anchor out each night? Or moor at piers? Did you have trouble with seasickness? Did you see lots of bears? I'll bet the food was amazing........................FWB

I'm not to proud to admit I'm envious, if i could do that unguided I'd be there in a heartbeat.

Congrats on an amazing trip!

We anchored out in different coves. we only saw one or two other boats the whole time we were out! No trouble with sea sickness being on the boat was super cool!
We stalked a ton of bears, I think my brother had twenty stalks before he killed a seven foot bear! The hunt was a blast and I cant say enough about jim phillips at
Annahootz alaska!

I agree, I like to hunt without a guide. But the boats and equipment would pose a problem. We also had to have a captain for that size boat.
and honestly the guys were a blast, some of the toughest people I've ever met. they were like the guy's on deadliest catch!

Let me correct myself my brothers bear squared eight feet!

Those are some awesome bears. Sounds like a great hunt with some fine eating to go with it. Congrats

Jacques, they quoted me $5k for spring black bear and fishing trip. Plus a charter flight (no price on it) from Ketchikan. I suspect on a Beaver at $200-300 each with two other passengers.

Sounded reasonable in my experience.

that is correct, when we did it it was 4500 but he has switched boats I believe. He is way more reasonable than any one else we checked with.
www.annahootz.com that is his website. The accommodations were not luxurious, but comfortable. I would not hesitate to recommend this outfitter!
any body that would like a reference can contact me and I will give you my phone number.

Ridgewalker
Sounds very reasonable Thanks
Your quote came from same outfitter?

Yes, same outfitter. I looked up his contact info on his website that Kevin posted. He was very responsive to my questions. I’m trying to figure out how to schedule a spring Bear hunt in.

Is boat big enough to give ladies a dab of privacy? I figured it was spring but I think I could leave the blonde if I told her it was an AH hunt, guys only!! I’m in if you want some company

Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
Spending a few years hunting out west then back to Africa!

Hello. If you haven't already sold this rifle then I will purchase. Please advise. Thank you.

I doubt you are interested in any trades but I was getting ready to list a Sauer 404 3 barrel set in the 10-12 price range if your interested. It has the 404J, 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Only the 30-06 had been shot and it has 7 rounds through it as I was working on breaking the barrel in. It also has both the synthetic thumbhole stock and somewhere between grade 3-5 non thumbhole stock
