I am hoping to learn from those more experienced than myself, I am trying to lock down a mountain hunt 2017 chasing goats or sheep and can't mortgage my home to do it. I am currently looking at Tur in AZJ, Snow Sheep in Rus, or Ibex in Taj and was hoping for input on anyone that can speak to the experience and anything I should consider. I'd like to get in steep tough mountains and am looking for a proper hunt in gorgeous country.

Thanks in advance,
MV

There are some members who have been running around after those species. Hope someone can help you out.

Good luck! Work out! Practice your shooting!

I think Mountain Goats on Kodiak isn't too bad...I think average is 8 but I have seen deals for 6. I want to say Ibex might be your best bet for Asia. How much is a snow sheep in Russia? (And this is how my bucket list gets longer).

I believe one of the sponsors, @RickK, can probably help you out with a mountain hunt in the regions you're considering.

here's a couple of the deals they've posted on AH:

Ibex, Kyrgyzstan, ($7850) http://www.africahunting.com/threads/mid-asian-ibex-hunting-in-kyrgyzstan.28943/#post-273843

Marco Polo, Kyrgyzstan, ($16995 + $10k trophy fee) http://www.africahunting.com/threads/marco-polo-argali-hunt-in-kyrgyzstan.28939/

Tur, Azerbaijan, ($10850) http://www.africahunting.com/threads/dagestan-tur-hunts-in-azerbaijan.28821/

Once you decide on something, please post a report! I'd love to go on a hard mountain hunt one day and would love to hear how your experience goes.

A few years ago I went to Kyrgyzstan for $4500. Those hunts are a bit more $ now, but still one of the best values out there. Huge Mtns and some good hunting. If your interested send me a PM and I'll pass on some other info. Bruce

I am doing a Dall sheep hunt this August in the Yukon. Hunting with Dickson Outfitters: http://www.dicksonoutfitters.com/ Dave Dickson's concession (#10) is located right along the Alaska border and is 3.5 million acres. The concession has been in the Dickson family for over 100 years!

For a goat hunt, I've looked at Ultima Thule Lodge in Alaska http://www.ultimathulelodge.com/ If you go to this webpage, you have to scroll to the bottom and look for the box that says "Have a password?" Enter "hunting" and that will take you to the hunting page. Current price on mountain goat is $8500 and Dall Sheep is $18,500. The hunts are in the Wrangell Mountains, St. Elias National Park. BTW, this is a very cool website with a lot of videos

I've been looking at the Goat and Sheep up North but am thinking Asia Mountains while i don;t have kids and its still legal to hunt/import. My thinking is that i will have more time to hunt closer to home (the States) with family etc. The snow sheep i believe are 9k-15k depending on species which would be as much I could spend at this point in my life and one of the reasons Dalls are on the upper end/out of reach

Congratulations, that should be incredible, Dalls are on my list of hunts i'd like to do in the next few years i just wanted to make an overseas trip while i didn't have kids plus Dalls are typically a bit more than i can justify spending at this point. I'm hoping to stay around 10k. Have you done any other mountain hunting?

I'd rate tur in Azerbaijan as the best value in overseas mountain hunting today. The guides, equipment and food are all first class and they really are happy to have you in their country hunting. You won't find any steeper or tougher mountains than the Caucasus Mountains.

I elk / deer hunt a lot near Pray, Montana, just north of Yellowstone with Rising Son Outfitters http://www.huntinginmontana.com/ They don't have sheep hunting in that area, although I've seen lots of them there. They do offer mountain goat, but it's very tough to draw a tag. You hunt the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness Area, with elevations over 9,000 ft and mountain peaks to 11,000 ft. an elk/deer combo hunt, with non-resident tag will run you about $7k.

Absaroka has tons of history and i imagine gorgeous country, i'll be out in WY west of the Tetons if i draw the tag this year along with a few other local hunts here in CA and Rusa deer in New Caledonia next month.

Best of luck in you search @MVogel002 !

We look forward to the reports! New Caledonia sounds like a blast also!

Here's a link to the video from our Azerbaijan hunt.

I booked through Asian Mountain Outfitters who books through Mirbala in Azerbaijan who contracts the local hunting company. There always seems to be a lot of middlemen in Asian hunts....haha. Shecki is the place you want to hunt for best trophy quality and you really want to get Tural or Taleh to guide you. Opportunity should be 100% or in my case 200% as I missed one...haha. Obviously the better shape you are in the better your opportunity will be.

With what seems to be a rapidly declining stability in the regions surrounding Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan are others letting that factor in to what they book in the next couple of years? I would hate to book and then see things really decline in the region

Azerbaijan is very stable from what I've seen.

For the price Ibex in Kyrgyzstan is your best bet. I did that hunt in 2014 and if you want a tough mountain adventure this is it. I booked with ProfiHunt and also recommend The Hunting Consortium for booking this hunt. I flew Houston-Istanbul-Bishkek and the travel was not bad at all considering I was on the opposite side of the planet.
If you want to stay closer to home mountain goat or Aoudad in Texas is a good choice.
Please PM me if I can give you any more info or answer questions.
Regards,
Philip

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
