I ended up inheriting a Merkel 140AE, DA 470NE in the A4707XX S/N range a few years ago. Having more or less just lovingly oiled it for the last nine years I’ve considered selling it (my interest in Africa is more historical/linguistic than sporting)- but haven’t found one of a similar grade to get a ballpark value estimate. Most of what I’ve seen are either significantly higher or lower grades on Gunbroker, Rock Island, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

All depends on bore shape, tightness. I would value having owned one $10-$12,000

Your serial number range isn't too far off from the one I sold a couple weeks ago. Your gun is slightly older. Is your gun CCH or the coin finish receiver? What's the wood look like? Is it cased or uncased.

It’s an engraved receiver with an African game scene, would call it coin finished. There’s no factory case just a Merkel box. I’m really terrible at grading wood, but I’m guessing it’s a step or two above the plainest wood.

You should be able to compare it to the wood I posted on the sale. Your engraved game scene might be worth more to the right person as well.

Saw a good looking knife you posted a pic of with the watermelon. Can I ask the make? Looks like you hunted with Guav Johnson? We overlapped in the Save once. Would like to hunt with him one day..
