I was a kid when I asked my Papa who he served with. His only reply was "The Bloody Bucket!"
I do not remember him saying much about it but I know he was with them from Normandy until the end of the war. By the time I was old enough to really appreciate what he had been through he had passed.PA National Guard. They fought with great valor during WW2 and trace their lineage back to the Revolutionary War (Benjamin Franklin’s Division)… they are a much heralded unit within the reserve component of our Army…
They got the bloody bucket nickname from the Germans because their unit patch loosely resembles a bucket and is bright red..
