Looking for a "cheaper" double in 470 or 500 nitro. Shoot me a PM if you got something

I only have two nitro doubles remaining to sell: a .450-400 3 1/4" and a .450 no2; both pre war English. Sadly, they are not cheap.

Define cheap? Cheap and double dont normally fit together to well.
Best of luck in the search.

Papabear:
Thanks for the email. Now I know you! I sold my .470 Lyon and Lyon and just received the last payment on my .500 nitro that was owned my Jack Lott and sent it off a couple of months ago. Also, these two were not cheap. If money is the first concern, perhaps a Kokiak or a Sabati? Both are under 5$K. Next step up are the Chapuis, Merkel, and a low end Krieghoff or Heym. This group can be had for 7-10$K. For not much more is a plain V-C or Searcy. They are out there but remember "you get what you pay for."

Cabelas fort worth just got in a rodda 450-400 that looks pretty good for the 10k they are asking, could be had for less I'm sure. I'd buy something like this before I'd buy any of the new stuff, english guns from that period just have a much silkier feel.

I asked about that one that cabelas had. They sent me lots of pics and I asked for some of the standing breach and barrel flats, which they sent. The area around the striker disc retaining screws looks like somebody took a Dremel tool to it. I made them an offer, they countered and I made I final offer. The guy I was corresponding with said they had to get approval from the regional buyer. I never heard back.

I know a gun dealer with a Sabatti 500 Nitro for $5000 on consignment. If interested let me know? The owner would take less.

Papabear beware. A double is something altogether different, as you know, and if satisfaction of ownership is in the equation no amount of cost saving will excuse a dud. First is functionality, and you can pay a premium for a fancy dud that is really worthless unless it works properly. Brand is everything, Heym and Merkel have strong design features, you won't go wrong. There are bargains to be found in these, keep looking.

Unfortunately Cal the new Chapuis Elan model is selling for $14,299 in the 470 Nitro! Champlin's just got the one I ordered in, George has pictures of my 470 on his new gun list.

There are a couple of .470 and .500 NE on Gunsinternational.com starting at 12K and up. Here is a VC one.

"Cheaper" means different things to different people. What I think is expensive, others may consider chrap. That said, in my opinion, a double that costs less than $15K is reasonable and one less than $8K is a hit or miss proposition. Here's a Manton for $14K

I thought I saw a 470 or 500 on GI for 10k a couple days ago.

Looks like I'm about two months late to this thread, but same question as the original poster. Any leads?

Not to be outdone, I want a .450 nitro that I can afford.
(That translates as " cheap" to the rest of you)

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
