If anyone in the KC area has some they would be willing to sell or trade, I would appreciate it. I'll take about as much as you want to move, but I really only need a few hundred to start with. Have been able to find everything else, but not magnum rifle primers. I have plenty of other primers if you need any other size. Thank you.

Wish you the best of luck. I have stocked up on primers but only found available on gun broker. Yes I paid a ridiculous cost for them but never found anywhere else. Without question for reloaded primers are the most desired and least available

Wrong forum mate, MODS please move this to „on a lighter note” section

Just bite the bullet and get them off of GB and be done.

Just be aware of scams

I stopped using gunbroker years ago. The management of that company is just garbage. I'm sure someone in the KC area wants to trade a few hundred primers.

A few years ago, I switched over to CCI #34s for everything. Works well without issue for magnum carts I have.... 375HH, 416 Rem Mag and 450 Watts. Word is CCI uses mag compound in their #34 primer. Natchez has some listed but I think they are gold plated. :) But you gotta do what you gotta do.

The CCI #34 are in fact magnum primers according to the Speer reloading manual. My Scheels had them in stock a while back and I snagged two bricks.

Well, if you find them in KC I’ll drive down from Chicago and outbid you. All jokes aside, you have no idea how scarce and valuable what you‘re asking for actually is. @Wyatt Smith supplied me with 200 six months ago and I’ve rationed them like they were pure gold. I haven’t seem 215 or 215m primers for sale in any retailer for the past 2.5 years.

Thanks for the tip, I just ordered 1000 of the #34's from natchez. Shipping is of course obnoxious, but even so, it was cheaper than anything I saw on GB for the 215's.

With a name like fourfive8, I imagine you have done a bit of reloading for the great 458WM. Any AA2015 loads you want to share? I am just getting into the 458, and have some factory ammo to shoot up, then will start loading. I would like to find some powder coated lead bullets for cheaper practice. Maybe a 400g sized to 460 or so.

Practice is good! And the powder coated bullets will allow that at low velocities and low recoil. A good powder to use for those powder coated cast bullet reduced loads would be 5744. For a step up and reduced loads with cheap/practice jacketed bullets I'd use Hodgdon's recipe of 60 % of listed max with H4895.

For serious, full power jacketed 400-450 gr hunting loads I'd use a chronograph and work up, while watching for high pressure signs, using Hodgdon Benchmark. Don't currently own a WM but have loaded for one fairly recently. Benchmark is one of Hodgdon's Extreme powders so is not temperature sensitive. It seems to have excellent potential for use in the 458 WM.

I appreciate the info, thank you. Unfortunately, none of those powders are available to me right now, but I will keep looking and am sure they will turn up eventually. I can do a little load development with Varget for now, and a bit more with 2015, until other stuff turns up.

I'm actually more interested in closer to full power loads, as I have lots of rifles to shoot at lower power. It seems that guys are getting 2000 fps plus with cast bullets that are PC's and sometimes gas checked as well. I just need to find a source as I am not set up to cast my own.

Personally, I've never had a problem buying multiple firearms, ammo or reloading supplies off of GB.

Just as a FYI.................GB is under new management as of May 2021.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., May 03, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- AMMO, Inc. (Nasdaq: POWW ) (“AMMO” or the “Company”), a premier American ammunition and munition components manufacturer and technology leader, is pleased to announce today the successful closing of the previously announced acquisition of the GunBroker.com business (GunBroker.com), the world’s largest on-line auction marketplace dedicated to firearms, hunting, shooting and related products. The Transaction involved an approximate $240 million merger of reorganized entities resulting in GunBroker.com and certain affiliates becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of AMMO (the “Transaction”).

I recently bought a brick of CCI #34s, because they were available and the price was reasonable. I have used them in "Large Rifle" applications (270 & 7x57) but not in any Magnum applications, yet.

@SLG Let us know what powders you’re looking for. Unlike primers, people are finding powders regionally and several members have been horse trading to help one another out.

I was in New England this week and found 1lb of 3031 and three 1lb 4831 bottles at $35 each! I grabbed them either to use or to barter for RL15 and RL19.

That's a good idea, thanks. I can't say I really NEED any right now, as I at least have some to start trying loads with. Once I get some made up, I will go from there. Might need something like H4198 or 322, AA2230. Not sure yet.

Have you ever had any ignition or inconsistent velocities with the #34's in larger magnum cartridges? The CCI's state they are designed to be harder to ignite for safe use in military firearms. Makes me a bit nervous to use for a DG rifle unless I can get enough data from people using them. But, after weeks of looking I cannot find any 215's anywhere.

Good question and the answer is not well known by the public and it seems somewhat counter intuitive. I had the same concerns but as it turns out the opposite is true. Most other primers, while generally having thinner or softer cups, the #34 has one of the lowest failure to fire rates of all large rifle primers because of the consistency of external and internal tolerances. The most significant factor affecting FTF rates among various types and brands of primers is not the thickness or hardness of the cup but the overall consistency of the dimensional tolerances. Anecdotally, I’ve never had a FTF with the CCI #34.

Early on in my conversion to the 34, I asked a friend who regularly rubs elbows with various R&D people in the firearms/ammo industry about exactly these types of questions. He provided me the info I posted above. So no worries, IMO, really about the #34 itself. There are many other things that have much more affect on primer reliability, proper ignition and powder burn. Like: contamination, pocket dimensions, primer seating pressure, anvil compression, powder compression and type of powder… , etc.

Thank you for answering so thoroughly, I am just getting started reloading and want to learn not just the "how" but the why behind ideal choices, setup, procedures, before spending my money and time. While I love the process of getting years of experience I would rather learn from decades of experience of others so my years can be more productive.

You're quite welcome. The secrets of reliable primer ignition include: Zero contamination from oil, solvents, etc. Correct primer pocket depth and bottom contour. Below is pic of simple tools available to ensure that. Correct primer seating with a very very small compression of the anvil of the primer onto the bottom of the primer pocket- best done by feel with a hand priming tool. Top of seated primer should be slightly below level of base of cartridge- pic shows a simple caliper depth gauge to measure. This 416 Rem Mag cartridge is ready to hunt with and the top of primer measures .004" below base of cartridge.

Kind of off topic for classified, but ok with since it's important and originated in decision on the availability inquiry in the OP. :)

HI all, here is a Short update on our America trip, I currently in Houston and have 2 more meetings here before movings North toward Oklahoma, Missouri and Iowa, and from there I will head to Colorado and Idaho,I have been met with great hospitality and friendship, and have met several new and old clients and we are going to book the rest of 2025 season quick and have several dates booked for 2026!
That's a wrap, on our first hunt of this years season.

Hunting conditions are a bit tougher in South Africa during the month of February, but can be just as rewarding if done right.
