Hi
I have the same thoughts since I have a good warthog coming back soon? Here is some thing I have been thinking about.

They bronze or other metal looks on the skull and leave the tusks. Kind of like the old baby shoes of day gone by

I think that they are just so ugly that they deserve a shoulder mount, at least that is what I am planning on for mine if I manage to shoot one in a couple of weeks.

I may have to talk to my taxidermist and see what kind of replicate tusk he can come up with and see if he can get a close match to the ones on the hog that I plan on shooting. Then I do a euro mount on the skull and tusk and the shoulder mount on the fake tusk.

When I get a chance I will have to take some pictures of mine, that is exactly what I did. Your taxi should be able to cast your tusks for you. Expect an additional charge for this of course, but an exact replica is no problem whatsoever.

If, as you suggest, he offers to buy commercial replicas that are similar then I would question using him at all since this is one of the simplest things a taxi can cast.

I was just wondering out loud about getting something that is close to what my hog will have. I haven't talked to my taxidermist in a couple of months but I am sure that he would say the same thing as you did. He is a very good taxidermist and I have no doubts that he will take care of my animals properly even if I come up with another hair brained idea.

I hope that's not a hair brained idea since we both share it. (y)

I am having a shoulder mount. I have the head sitting on a shelf with the original tusk/teeth in it. The shoulder mount will have ones the Taxi made. There was no additional cost.

I also put a wine cork in its mouth to hold it open a bit so upper and lower tusks/cutters are displayed better

Thanks for all the pictures I think I am leaning toward the European mount but I might change.

That bronzed skull gets my vote for "coolest skull mount ever". Who did that work and how do I get that done? What's the cost for "bronzing"?

Also, isn't their a traditional presentation of the warthog tusks or bushpig teeth wired to a wood board, often times the board being in the shape of africa? Anyone do something like that?

I found them at the hunting show in Denver. There might be other people that do it other places.

that is so cool looking. Is that some kind of paint or some kind of staining treatment.
I'd like to try that with some deer skulls.
a "how to do this" would be nice.

Camo dipping I cant help you with but Once I get home I will post the "poor mans" bronzing that I have done. Looks great and several skulls can be done for $7.

Keep in mind if bringing warthog skull/tusks and or skin back to the USA it will have to go through USDA processing. If you are just wanting the skull have them put it on a plaque in Africa then its cleared. But if looking to have a mount done back in the states it will have to go through USDA.

This is what I had done with my EC Warthog. It is a common way to have wild boar mounted here in Europe. I'm yet to see a warthog shoulder mount that doesn't look too artificial to me, so I went with this method and am glad I did. It looks great and costs a fraction of the price. I plan to get a plaque engraved with species, date and location engraved and screwed into the center of the plaque. I have had a canvas print made of a picture taken with my friend (left), PH (middle) and myself (right) with both our trophy Warthogs taken on the same day.

Here is an option I chosefor a table top display. Zebra wood base with stainless steel support.

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
