Hi all members. Just as a parting shot (pardon the pun) for 2011, a very short clip of an 11-year-old planting a springbuck with one shot. .308 rifle, 170 yards, standing over sticks in a howling wind. I call this good shooting. Enjoy and may you all have a beautiful festive season.

Yip. Right there with you. I just wish they would all drop like that when I film!

While the springbuck dropped to the shot...

I would have liked to seen a slow motion of bullet impact with the animal...

With a stiff cross wind slow motion bullet placement would show point of impact. Everyone get lucky at times in a stiff crosswind.

Unfortunately a springbuck is rather small and at 170yrds you can't really zoom in much more to show impact shot. With regard to the wind, I think the lad did well to keep himself steady, standing up over sticks. After all, he's only 11. He also shot a zebra, warthog, blue wildebeest and impala. All good shots except for the impala that needed more than one shot.

My hat is off to him! I also like the fact that he sits for the photo with his bolt open. It's a piece of safety that was drilled into me relentlessly, but I don't see it much nowadays. This young man definitely has made a good start as a hunter!

Could not agree with you more.

Good Lad..the shot has all the characteristics of a spinal hit.

Good call on that shot placement. Actually, shot was just under the spine, but it seems that a part of the bullet sheered off & hit the spine. Still, I'm very happy to have filmed such a straight shooting lad on his first African excursion.

I may add that, with all the outfitters I have filmed with, fire-arm safety is of the utmost importance, and believe me, these guys (PH's) do take care to make sure that a client's rifle is not a danger to anything other than the trophy hunted.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]
