Has anyone here ever hunted water buffalo in the USA? Looks like there are a few places that advertise these hunts in Florida and Texas. Just wondering what these hunts are like. I'm guessing not much of a hunt, but I'd like to hear from someone who's actually done it.

Was invited along as an observer on a water buffalo hunt. We drove into the fenced area, walked maybe 300 yards to where there was a lake and a couple dozen buffalo staring at us. Then pretty much waited till they exited at which point the guy plugged one with his 375. Owner brought in a tractor for recovery. Was able to try some meat and it was good/ok imo.
I would compare that experience to walking into a herd of cattle but perhaps somewhere in the US they are "more wild" although I highly doubt it.

The ones I have seen in the US are too much like cows for me to consider shooting them but this may not be the case everywhere.

They come up a lot on Texas hunting Facebook pages. Never heard anyone say was tough hunt. Everyone seems to say good meat and cool mount though

I’ve read a couple stories of hunting them in Florida that seemed like it might be fun but who knows.

Some friends and I have shot a few on the high fenced Action Outdoors Adventures(AOA) Ranch at Hondo, TX.
They pr0vide a lot of good meat and a varying amount of hunt effort. The same goes for Nilgai on the same ranch.
Here is a good bull that a friend annoyed with his 30-06 and bad to put down with my .405 WCF and NF bullets. The guide did not bring his stopping double as shooting this bull was decided upon when the hinter saw it. The guide borrowed my 1895 .405 "just in case".

This bull made a good looking shoulder mount..
