I spend a lot of time in Vermont. I assure you there are a lot of people with that view. Everyone should visit VT and experience socialism in the USA.

Look at the nice estates. Go visit Orvis, Green Mountain Coffee, the Outlets at Manchester, Ben and Jerry's and all the other evidence of capitalism and free markets in VT.

Then ask if any of these companies are Chartered VT corporations and if any of those homeowners are legitimate VT residents. You'll quickly learn the answer is 100% no. No one stakes their flag in VT as it would consume you financially in a nano-second. Thus, the only voters are recipients of the State, not the contributors to the State. Like good socialists, they are most often in favor of large, intrusive government and registries of all sorts.

Of course, it's a fake quote.

Just an fyi- for fact checking. This woman hasn't been a senator since the late 90's and this graphic was created by a reddit user in 2002. There isn't any evidence she ever said anything like that. Not defending her, don't know anything about her, but this seems to be one of those "it's on the Internet it must be true" things that is perpetuated by people who don't fact check before posting. No offense to you Hoas as I'm certainly not attacking you, you simply had the immediate reaction this was intended to bring out.

ORIGINS: On 19 March 2015, a Reddit user posted the above-referenced quote to a discussion thread about firearms. That thread linked to a series of anti-gun statements reportedly made by American politicians,

and the quote attributed to Vermont state senator Mary Ann Carlson generated a good deal of outrage on social media following its recirculation via that platform.

The collection of quotes linked on Reddit was published in mid-2014, but the comment credited to Carlson had begun circulating online far earlier. The earliest iteration we’ve found so far dates to 2002 [PDF]; but many variations of it have been posted in the intervening years, all without providing any additional information about source or context.

Although the quote first surfaced as early as 2002, Carlson had not served as a Vermont state senator for almost a decade prior to that. A 2013 article quoted Carlson on the matter of gun control and reported that she had lost a re-election bid nearly twenty years earlier (in 1994), in part due to her attempt to introduce gun control legislation in that state:

Great minds think alike! So when are you going to invite me over so we can discuss things like this while say- stalking the bush for something that just needs to taken out of the herd? ;-)

Mike, I was seriously just about to add that if you won it would need to be personally delivered to ensure it gets there in good condition! No joke!

And..... I just said that to my wife! This is getting a little scary!!! Luckily the AH mods have asked to view the drawing via Skype to ensure it is fair, so there will be no doubt!

What a dumb ! People will drum up the most idiotic stuff to troll the internet.

And of course I got sucked under the troll's bridge with my knee jerk reply!

I am glad to know that this was not true. Fake news! But I tell you it's not too far fetched to think that there are people out there who think crazy stuff like this.
