I got out relitivly cheap. My wife purchased some Tetra custom molded hearing devices.

The couple traveling with us booked a Buffalo, Croc, Leopard and hippo hunt with Dalton and York in the Omay

I ran into the CEO of SCI and he said they are setting another all time record this year.

After a number of visits in Dallas to the Rand booth and a couple more her in Nashville, I saw this hat. I’d seen it before on their website and didn’t care for it. In person it looks much better than on the computer.

I booked a Cape Buffalo Safari for August 2026 with Gary Duckworth at Mokore Safaris in the Save Conservancy while he was at the SCI Convention via email.

Does that count?

This is a bucket list hunt for me. I am fascinated by the history of Rhodesia. Couldn't put down the book "Shadows in an African Twilight" by Kevin Thomas He has lived an extraordinary life having grown up in Rhodesia, becoming a Game Ranger protecting wildlife, then becoming a Special Forces soldier in the battle against the insurgents, then a PH in Zimbabwe and South Africa and finally as a Personal Security Officer (contractor) in Iraq. It is a huge regret that I never got to hunt a Buffalo with Kevin (I had several conversations with him but never made it happen) before I retired. He recommended the Duckworth family as a replacement as Barrie lived a very similar life and still spends much of his time at the Duckworth Camp in the Save. Lord willing I want to sit around the campfire with Barrie after hunting with Gary and listen to his tales of Rhodesia. So I finally got it booked this week.
Must reads for Africa lovers

It's been a while since I've been to SCI or any hunting show.
I went there for two days to see some old and new friends and give them a hand at their booths.
Least to say I got a sticker shock.
Same item I've got for $65 from SA were selling for $400.
North American hunts and some of the African hunt prices were over the top ridiculous.
Best bargains to be had mostly European or South American hunts.
Generally speaking for Africa I would wait and jump on a cancellation hunt here rather then get carried away at the show or buy one at the auction if you know the outfit and understand the value.

Well I’m kind of all of the above lol

Hunted RSA buffalo on a cancellation hunt last July, Scotland in September, DIY elk on Colorado in Oct

Taking a group of friends and family to hunt with Marius @KMG Hunting Safaris in July with a Wyoming mule deer hunt in September

2025 has me in Argentina and March then over to New Zealand in June.

2026 I just booked a Buffalo hunt in Zimbabwe. After that I’ll probably be exclusively looking at cancellation hunts in Africa.

So I’ve kinda covered your entire post lol

That's a "proper schedule" as my friend from Zambia would say.

I bought a pair of lens for my Hy-Wyd shooting glasses.

I also won a day auction from Tsala for two hunters and two observers. It included 2 Impala and 2 Blue Wildebeest plus cull hunts for 2 Zebra, 10 Impala, and 4 Blue Wildebeest. I was looking for a second hunt this year to take advantage of a paid-for ticket and this fit the bill perfectly.

The Gallatin

Took a pic of the one they had on display today. Mine will be a little darker in color.

Some of the African auction hunts were super bargains specially if you already will be in Africa.

Plains game hunts to South Africa seem to fit the bill for this. I thought I got a great bargain and I had already met the folks from Tsala at the AH Get-Togethers so I was primed to bid on this hunt. I went to their booth afterwards and they were excited I had won their hunt. Jo and Brandon are great people.

I told my wife that if I could win an auction for a hunt at a low price I would be well ahead of the game and she agreed. It was a win-win-win situation for all involved.

Talked to Kenny Jarrett and his son's Cain and Jay about building a DG rifle. Price TBD when I pick out the wood and finalize all the options. Nicest folks I talked to at the entire show.

My gal Tina talked to a guide about booking a hunt in Croatia. Who would have seen that coming?

I booked my first African hunt, a ten day plains game hunt with Namibia Safari Corporation for June 2025. It was great to meet Jaco and his family. I wanted to just hang out and talk hunting all day, but I could see he is a busy man. It was nice to see others that have hunted with him stop by to say hello. I feel much more confident about the trip after meeting with him personally. Thanks to all here for being welcoming and encouraging and helping me make the decision to to this.

The plan is to hunt upland birds in Montana with my dogs through the month of September on public lands. Then at the end of September, Princess Bride will fly in and we will be at the Flying B Ranch in Idaho for two days of upland bird hunting. After a couple of days of showers, clean sheets, and some very good cooking, I‘ll decide whether to go home or go chase pheasant for the month of October.

I started working on a Dall's sheep hunt after finding out the Unit was just closed where I have the full bag hunt for September. The sticker shock literally hit me like a gut punch! I took a day to absorb this doubling of prices and am still narrowing it down.
I did get tempted by the Rigby Shikari double.

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
