I know what tanned zebra hides sell for at the airport as you leave Tambo International Airport. I have seen them listed on Ebay, but I never check to see how long they are for sale or if they sale. I see prices from $700 to $ 1500.00.
What is the real market value for them? I know the people on here have a better idea than the rest of the world. I have a chance to buy some, but I have no idea if I could sell them and get money back on reselling them.

I will have 3 for sale soon. A great deal depends on size and quality of skins, defects, etc. Mine will be at Dennis' shop. You can also check at shows like DSC.

I agree K-man, but how much were you going to sell them for? People can use a skin to make furniture, pillows or rugs. Is there a healthy market for good zebra skins? Has the market changed now that Trump is President?

Just what would Trump have to do about price??

Just a guess..........black and white stripes might become fashionable during a Trump administration, potentially driving up the price. I know, it's a bit of a reach......... :)

OK. You may have an angle on that.

:S 2 Cents:Well, when you have a anti-gun, anti-hunter as President, everything wildlife related has a distorted value.

Think of it this way, what if elephants from any country where the African government approved there sustained harvest were automatic allowed to cross through USWFS when Trump is in office. Do you think the price of the hunt rises? Same with lion? Everything has a different value. Same with wildlife related products. When there is pro-hunting president in office, things change...that is my two cents.:S 2 Cents:

Just one problem with the bobble head above........HRC does have a really big head.......but she also has a very large rear end. Just saying she hasn't looked that good since 1978! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

You also have to consider the exchange from rand to dollars since (most) skins come from S.A. I don't have a price yet as we have not seen them tanned yet. Most large, good skins get $1300 to $1800. Will keep you posted when holidays are over and get good pics. I am relying on Dennis as well as he is more qualified than me.

I'm sorry I can't help answer your question, but would be very interested in knowing what they sell for at the airport. It might help me plan my hunt... Feel free to PM me if you don't mind sharing that info.

They are just over $2k as o recall. If you're hinting and want one, shoot it. You won't come out anymore expensive, maybe cheaper, and you'll have had the experience.

I didn't look at the exact price this last time. In the past they were $1000, I'm sure they are more now. It seems ever since the World Cup happen years ago, everything has doubled in price at the airport. So, Royal's price would be correct.
I got a beautiful mountain zebra rug for $250 in 2008 from Namibia. So I'm very perplexed by the increases in cost.
Any hunter should definitely hunt for their own zebra rug.

If someone wants their zebra or it's included in a package anyway, I agree the experience is worth it. But I do disagree on the financials. Rugs can be bought for the same price as you would pay the taxidermist. So you end up spending an extra 1100-1200 dollars on the trophy fee. That extra trophy fee would just about cover the fee/taxidermy on another impala/blesbok type animal and you'd still have a zebra rug.

Something to think about

I saw tanned zebra skins for 12-14 hundred bucks on the internet a week ago, check out ebay.

You're correct.

I was talking specifically about buying in airport.
:A Banana Sad:

I checked the eBay sold only listings for zebra rugs, $200 to $1300. But does not show how fast or slow the sales took.

I think that is where the market is, I know the lower price stuff goes pretty fast.

Maybe the first time hunter to Africa. I would negotiate the cost. And tanning and all that costs can be brought down quite a bit if you are shipping other stuff back. A zebra hide takes up little space.

Lots of good info, thanks.

It will be my first hunt and I'm leaning pretty heavily toward hunting a zebra for a beautiful rug. I do want to have the experience and be able to say "That one's mine." I thought that if there are inexpensive hides that could be made into accessory pillows or something, it might be a frugal option. Then I could afford to hunt one more species. I guess I'll look into it more. (I'm trying to figure out the best way to spend my budget.)

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
