Good day All,

I will be in the USA in September attending a conference. I do have a day free in Las Vegas and then one day in New York. Never been over there, and would welcome any suggestions of what to experience with very limited time.

Thank you !

Michiel

What do you like?
Art, architecture, wildlife, museums, parks, history, people?
At a loss where to start really.

In New York, The Smithsonian and eating in Little Italy, in Vegas a Floor (clothing optional)Show and the Kobi Beef at Bellagio

Hi Brickburn ,

To experiance a bit of the culture and scenery.

Out of what you listed above I would say people and history. In Vegas I will be based on the Strip, and in New York in Manhatten

There are a number of one-day Grand Canyon tours that leave from Las Vegas. I have used this company once and it was excellent - http://www.viator.com/tours/Las-Veg...-Vegas-with-Optional-Skywalk/d684-3951WESTDLX

There is also the option of a helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon. I don't have any experience with any providers, but have done the helicopter trip from just outside the park and it is FANTASTIC if you have the budget to cover the costs.

I enjoy people watching in New York! I ride the metro from wherever I am staying to Central Park, then walk down to Times Square, and finish with the Museums - http://www.smithsonianmag.com/travel/five-must-see-museums-in-new-york-city-993626/?no-ist (take a cab back to your hotel ... the subway is less entertaining and more endangering at that time of night).

In Vegas eat at Joes Crab Claw in Caesars palace! Then take a ride over the Grand Canyon at sunset.
In New York take in a show on Broadway!

NY take a cab over to Peter Lugers... Best steak house in the US...

And then tell your cabbie you want to go to Juniors Cheesecake for the best desert in the US...

Juniors is a life changing experience :)

Hate NY. Vegas you must go to Caesars buffet!
Have a great trip.
Philip

In Vegas I would suggest a trip to The Grand Canyon. A 2nd choice would be a canoe ride down the Colorado River.

In NY go to the Met and Guggenheim to get your arts and culture fix.

Then jump in a cab and go have a look at the Holland & Holland gun room to get your Gun fix.

In Vagas go see Down town (old strip) and basically anywhere else there is awesome coming form RSA.

Also try to get a helicopter trip over canyon its worth every cent.

There is one that lands in the canyon for some snacks if you can get that one. You wont be sorry!!

Bit of a cliché, but you can shoot machine guns in Vegas.

Would be hard pressed to get to DC and back in one day and hope to spend any time at the Smithsonian. The Met is one of the great museums in the world if you are into art (I am, but it is not everyone's thing). NY also has some of the best restaurants on the planet. You have a couple of good suggestions - there a host of others. If you are there for an unsupervised evening, get tickets ahead of time and see a Broadway show. Hamilton is getting rave reviews.

I'll third and fourth the Grand Canyon recommendation. It is one of those wonders that photos and descriptions fail to capture. You'll have no problem staying occupied in the evening.

In Vegas certainly bypass all the stuff there and go to the Grand Canyon

Thank you all !! Quite a bit of research ahead of me it seems , so much to do ! -Wont be getting much sleep

I will be staying in the New York New York Hotel (y)
It will be funny to compare it to the real thing after having just been there yourself.
You have plenty of great suggestions now. Have fun

I will be staying in the New York New York Hotel (y)

one thing when you stay in a hotel in vegas, at check in ask for a room near the lifts....not right next but close, or you will want a golf buggy to use in the corridors to get back and forwards to your room.....
