Hi guys.
I am from Scotland.
I would love to go hunt caribou.
Where is good to go?
What time of year is best?
How much would this hunt cost?
Thanks
Alan
Thanks Jeff, I forgot about nonresident alien requirements. Sorry Alan, that will make Alaska a very pricey proposition.Ryan,
Don’t forget since he is a non US resident so it will have to be guided for Alaska. The price went up substantially.
@JKO Hunting Safaris works with a booking agent in France. He books caribou in Greenland I believe. If you can PM contact information to me, I will forward that to get you information.

The Fortymile herd is probably not your best bet if you're thinking of traveling to Alaska for what might be a once in a lifetime caribou hunt. The hunt is on a quota system with different opening dates for residents vs. non-residents, there are no guarantees how long it will stay open each year before they shut it down, and there have been years when the opening has been delayed on short notice due to concern that the caribou were concentrated in easily accessible areas that were likely to result in exceeding the quota. All of these things make this, in my opinion, a less than ideal option for someone who has to make travel arrangements and spend the kind of money it costs for a non-resident. For me this is a non-issue since I can easily be hunting caribou less than 2 hours after leaving home, but for someone making the kind of investment you would have to make to come up for this hunt, I think there are numerous better options that would be much easier logistically. The 40-mile herd is going up, check out 40-Mile air and others out of Tok, Alaska. Just a warning, it can get pricey. Flying into most of these herds is $3500 US or more. It's frustrating.
The cost of operating in these areas has alot to do with price as well
