Who's perfectly content with their firearm collection?

Hey guys,

I have a question for you all... Who here is perfectly content with their firearm collection?

I am and I was wondering if I was in the minority?

I really enjoy and cherish all the firearms I have.
They all have a bit of a story behind them and while none of them are not high end firearms, they all serve me perfectly.

I am now down to only 5 firearms. They are:

• An old Telly .22 air rifle for the kids to learn on
• A Stevens SxS 12g shotgun that I adore (I love American shotguns...)
• A Anschutz .22 with a Brno Model 2 stock that was gifted to me from members of another forum. I will NEVER sell this rifle
• A Weatherby Vanguard in .300 Wby that has a nice walnut stock that has been bedded, floated and is extremely accurate
• A Zastava M70 in .458WM that has been fitted with a Hogue stock and Leupold scope and is a nice, light thumper.

All these firearms have had work done to them to make them more pleasing or practical to me and this could range from a new stock finish to a whole new stock.
I really like all the firearms in my collection and honestly cant really see me adding to it.

I mean, a .22 , 12g , .300Wby , and a .458WM... theres not much you couldn't handle with this foursome...

So who else here is perfectly content with their collection?

I'm not asking anyone to list their guns (I only listed mine as an example) but I would like to hear if anyone else is as happy with their collection, as I am with mine .

Haven't counted for a while, but certainly well over 50. As to being content? Not really, there is always something to tickle my fancy and I am like a grocer, I need to frequently "rotate my stock".

At the moment,with a 9,3x62 being the smallest caliber i currently own, im not content. But my collecton is ever changing in the rifle section.

Shotguns, im good. For now.

One can never have enough firearms or ammo , just too many nice firearms available . Just my opinion . As I live in South Africa it is quite difficult to collect and license firearms , if I lived in the USA I am sure I would have many more than I have now .

Russ, I think you are in the minority I can always think of good motivation to acquire another firearm. Not that I have that many as our laws are making it a pain and budget is always an issue but plans are alwyas made to fill a gap or getting something neat.

If you would have asked me before I joined AH...
I would have said yes, I am content.

Then I joined AH and added a CZ550 and a 270WIN for my wife.
Again...content.

Now those rifles are sold and I've switched to the Blaser R8 system.
All that change happened in less than 3 years.
Am I content?

I've learned to keep my options open and allow myself to evolve and strive for better.
Or to allow for different hunting/shooting interests that may require a different firearm.
For those reasons, I believe that I will never be content with my firearms.
As technology and interests change I will continue to adapt.

To answer your question...no, I am not content.

I am not , especially when it comes to my rifles for hunting in Africa !

If you do something regularly , with increasing experience you will notice what you really need and what is unnecessary.

Luckily I am an aficionado and a little bit collector of old hunting rifles. It would be bad if they were new and mass-produced rifles. That's not the case and that's why one leave them in the gun-safe , but keep thinking about what one should still buy !

Nope, nowhere near content. The lack of .50cal rifle of some flavour seems to be a problem (perhaps a 577NE), a big bore revolver (460S&W) will also have to be added at some point. Nice and light stalking/mountain single shot rifle is a must. Oh and just today the new Kimber Rapide in 10mm or 45 caught my eye. A nice timber, sporter style stock for my R8 is tempting too. And I can go on like this for an hour or two.

I’ve sold a few rifles over the last year and a half to help pay for a couple of larger bore rifles that you “enablers” here on AH said I needed to have. But, I’m at the point in my life where I’m done with buying a firearm, shooting it a few times and burying it in the gun safe. I would rather sell them for a fair price to someone who will use them and in return have the funds available to purchase a gun I’ve always wanted and will use?

Contentment is a decision like any other emotion and so I am content with what is in my safe. having said that there may be a time that I DECIDE to change the number or the contents.
You can decide to be content with and enjoy what you have which curtails the constant need/want to add to your collection or chase that next "fix" in the end of rainbow pot o gold (or unicorn)to find the contentment that will never be there

I would have more in my collection if it wasn't for the restrictions here in the UK.
I have a .22 and a .17HMR for small pest control. I also have a .223, a 6.5x55 and a 30-06, this has me well covered for anything in the UK and as I say I was content until I went to Africa, now I want something a bit bigger for when I return.

A very good attitude to hunting in africa !

Don't do it like me and buy too much big bores. A practical big bore rifle is nowadays a rifle caliber 416 , unless you want to hunt elephants regularly. I took me over 20 years to determine that !

Choose well , especially if you are by laws limited by the number of rifles.

It's hard to accumulate a large collection in the UK because of the laws so you have to choose and buy wisely.

That said, I'm perfectly happy with what I've got and don't plan on adding or updating any time soon.

I have an AR semi auto in .22 for a fun gun, plinking and the occasional squirrel or rabbit.

A .243 for Roe deer and foxes although legal for any UK deer species.

My 30-06 which has travelled to Africa with me several times and is also used in the UK for deer.

I also have my Mauser M03 with a .375H&H barrel and I have a .300WinMag barrel slot available on my licence.

My Beretta shotgun that I've owned since I was sixteen and is an old friend.

These should keep me covered for most eventualities although I might acquire another shotgun at some point.

So yes, I'm happy and consider myself lucky in the UK to have what I've got.
