Hi does anyone have one of these? How does it feed and function? How's the trigger and of course accuracy?

Thanks in advance

I think a number of members here have them, and hope you get some helpful insight.

I have a 1895 takedown in 405 from the 20s. It’s as accurate as I am with open sights (I’m actually a little surprised how accurate it is). It feeds and functions just fine. The trigger pull is okay - I always feel like the “lock time” on a falling hammer is a little long, but I mostly shot bolt guns, followed by doubles.

It’s the last lever action design by John Browning, and I believe the strongest. It can shoot pointy bullets - had to go wrong in terms of A lever gun. Just my opinion thought… hope that helps

I don’t have one but somewhat depends on if it’s an original or a Japan/fn made rifle. Not a huge difference overall but the new ones are more accurate and have a tang safety.

You mean like this Miroku made Winchester 1895 TD .405 ? Also seen to the left leaning on dead buff:

Feeds 210, 300, 400 grain ammo just fine. Good for killing game of any size. Peep sight is accurate, fast and makes it hard to miss. Medium weight, well balanced, and has become my favorite stalking rifle.
Trigger set at 4 pound pull as are all my center fire rifles.

Have had several originals. Never owned a Miroku, but make no mistake, they are a well made reproduction! The 95s are historically cool because of TR or course. Lots of poop in both the 405 and 35 Win versions. Never any feeding issues with the ones I had. Single stack mag is a very direct, inline feed so by design minimizes feed and chambering issues. Kind of a Rube Goldberg lever mechanism and not the most ergonomic to cycle or comfortable to carry in the field because of the "belly". That lever is articulated, has pinch points and, IMO, not the most comfortable to cycle. I was aways wanting to reach around underneath and grab the lower part of the lever to cycle. The climbin' Lyman aperture sight works well on them. For what its worth the 35 Win was the best of the 95s I had, including a pristine and nearly unfired 1st year 405. The coolest one I had was a constabulary issued carbine in 30 Army (30-40) and it shot nearly as well as the 35 Win.

All that my opinion of course :)

I have owned at least 4 of the .405's, current one is a take down, but I have only shot it a couple of times yet. The others shot well, took one to SA.
I have an original in .35 Winchester and enjoy it probably most of all, just something about it, shoots very well for being a 120 years old with original barrel!

I waited decades to find the .405 I really wanted and here she is: takedown, English proofs, sling eyes, Winchester 4-leaf rear sight, and cased with accessories. She shoots better than I can but with open sight 3 1/2 - 4 inches at 100 yards over a rest is easy. This rifle was retailed by Coombes and Company in Rangoon in the 1920s. I kinda wish it had an old Silver's pad on it. I thought of adding one but then the butt would not fit in the case. Note the case is cut for the sling eye. Shown with a repro Coombes catalog. Never a jam and feeds very smooth.

I had a chance to buy a modern 405 and 30-06, and I dithered. I did not realize how gallactically impossible it is to get ammo for the 405 in Canada. That would have been a bit of a shock if I had purchased it. I was hoping to have the 30-06 converted to a 9.3x62, as others have done. If I get another chance, I will probably just get the 30-06.

While it doesn't change much for those on the nostalgia train. The 45-90, with the correct modern rifling is a much better choice on power, and everything about it is a lot more available. (1886)

Interesting 410 wildcat:

Well done Cal. I think I may have a few decades of looking left to go!

I like that .410 '95 in the vid above by JES reboring in OR. Interesting....

Maybe you should have a 410 O&M built for you like the one in the video? You'd have all the cartridge bases covered in the 1886 then?

CEH,
You have a strange sense of humor!
That OEM performance is no better than my 405.

Just trying to broaden your horizons with your 1886 platform so you won't get bored? LOL
