I have an opportunity to buy this rifle from a buddy who has pretty much stopped hunting. Anybody have any experience and/or opinion on the M70 Black Shadow?

Synthetic stock so its a crapshoot whether the forend flexes or not. Back then it probably was not free floated either. Worst case scenario you will have to hold the forend and it will be very servicable out to a couple hundred yards. I have a tupperware stock on a savage 7mag, i just use it for wet weather when i need medium game to drop where they stand.

It's a tupperware stock. You can free float the barrel easily enough with sandpaper wrapped around deep well sockets. If it's in a caliber that speaks to you and a price you can stand, buy it.

I have one - the stock was junk. As mentioned the forend flexed up into the barrel and was touching the barrel (even without putting any pressure on it). As soon as I bought it I removed the stock and installed a new Bell & Carlson stock. Easy peasy and much better! Other than the stock, no issues. Buy it if it's a good price!

I handled a new Winchester at my local store. I think they called it the all weather SS. It had nice stiff stock on it, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Bell and Carlson. They might have caught on that people don’t like the Tupperware stocks.
Sorry I can’t help with that specific model.

Yes, that could be the case now. I should have mentioned that mine was bought somewhere around 2002-2004 timeframe....(hard to believe it was that long ago). As Wyatt mentioned if its a newer version they may have went with a better stock so you might be good to go.
BTW - I still have that stock if you need one :D

Hello there. I’ve been wanting to introduce myself personally & chat with you about hunting Nilgai. Give me a call sometime…

Best,

+1 Great to deal with. I purchased custom rifle. No issues.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
