I just won an auction for a Zastava Model 70 in 9.3x62. Alcohol and Gunbroker DO NOT MIX!!! This is basically a commercial Mauser 98, with a different safety. Weight is said to be 7lbs. Barrel length 22" with iron sights.

Does anyone have any experience with these rifles?

The Mk. X and Whitworth M98s were all made by Zastava. They've been making them forever at different grades for various brands.

Those Zastava branded rifles are generally utilitarian and a little rough in finishing, but are strong and dependable, and generally shoot very well. A good base for a little customisation with a good adjustable trigger.

Solid reliable mauser style action. in a great calibre. It is my favourite medium bore, I find that RL-17 and Big Game powders give the best accuracy and velocity with 250-320gr 9.3 bullets.

Nothing wrong with them - they are in the same class as the basic CZ family. Most will work fine right out of the box, but may need a little tuning.

I watched that same auction for weeks! That seller often has those rifles in various cals, lots of left hand guns too for those of that persuasion. Should be a good rifle, same as any other Zastava, Mark X, Whitworth, Remington, etc.

Same rifle as mine, except mine is a lefty. Dealer is Alan McKinney out of some little town in TN. Very nice guy. Talked to him quite a while.

You'll probably want to refinish the stock. As is, it will probably soak up rain water like nobody's business. I used Bhelen's on mine.

I find the recoil from 286 gr bullets at about 2400 to be attention-getting.

But, she shoots straight.

He almost always has lefties in 6.5x55, 7x57, 9.3x62, and 375H&H.

Good info! Hopefully this one will work out ok. Not expecting too much, but I've had a couple of these in the past, and theu were good shooters. I had a 30/06 that was an absolute tack driver, but back in the day, I used to trade a lot. Lol!

I have an interarms mark x 30/06, which I believe is the same rifle. It's a great shooting rifle. I honestly think the previous owner slicked it up a bit though, cause it's very smooth cycling.
They slick up over time like most such rifles. I bought my Whitworth .375 in 1984 and spent some time working the bolt to smooth it out some. After 3 safaris and lots of shooting, its pretty smooth.

I imagine some lapping compound and an evening would do wonders for smoothness. I can deal with most anything, as long as the metal work is reasonably good.

With a NECG aperture from 50 yards

Like I said, she's a shooter. A little hard to see, but there are 2 touching right at the 3" windage line.

Not in 7x57 at least for some time. I asked and he said he got 30 in once but no longer available. Too bad, be a nice combo.
