For sale Zeiss Diavari-C 3x9 36MM
Made in Wset Germany

Took it off my Colt Sauer .270

Excellent condition. Bright and clear. Can see where the rings were but that is it as far as "blemishes"

Rubber eye piece is nice for if you put it on hard kicking guns and the objective bell is rubberized, I guess to protect it against dings.

$550 shipped to anywhere in the lower 48

The scope is sold pending payment.
Thank you to the people that PMed me

Scope has been sold, shipped and delivered.

Thanks for looking

Great scope! You would think with the refined engineering in Germany that they would have figured out how to coat these scopes so they didn’t show ring marks like they did! Everyone I have looks like shit when you swap them. A guy should start a W. German scope restoration business and he would make a mint.

Agree - I have 2 of these that need to be fixed ! I have spoken with Zeiss and these old West German Diavari C optics are not able to be repaired due to unavailable parts. If anyone has any advice on where I could send mine then please let me know!

The new ZEISS Precision Rings are designed to not mar the scope tubes… I guess that was the answer!

“Micro-radiused on all machined leading edges to ensure a non-marring design.”

I posted a while back asking if anyone knew who did restoration on them and it was crickets

Correct. Restoration there is no plan. A few companies in America with 2 year backlogs will clean old scopes, lubricate, nitrogen purge, but they are not going to have Zeiss parts. And honestly, I don’t think a two year wait is practical unless you’re restoring an incredibly historically significant optic.

As to rings marks, crappy rings mark scopes. No two ways about it. EAW rings do not. Talley rings can be hand worked and then installed with kroil to prevent ring marks in competent, patient hands. After everything is perfect, using correct torque specs with a torque wrench and applying even pressure is key. There is a reason I charge $600 as a “friend price” to install rings and mounts and Cabelas does it for $15. I can burn 6 hours measuring and fitting rings, taking all risk of ordering non-refundable parts from Germany, and then installing. They can charge $15 and slap a set of aluminum weavers on, calling it a sloppy day. I’m a hack, true pros like NECG and G&H will be hitting you up for $900-$2500 to install rings and mounts while not F’ing up your scope tube finish. I built a custom spanner to spread the ring as I slide it over the tube so the edges don’t gouge when putting the ring on. One of a thousand things to consider as you undertake the job to a high standard. But that’s how you get it done without ring marks.

The zeiss that sold was a wonderful scope. Equally wonderful but a bit more money, check out the Swaro z3 3-9x36mm at around $650-$700. About the best deal in optics going right now when you can’t find a nice used one like the one that was offered here.

If you never want rings mark again and you are all thumbs, you can always buy a modern german gun with a rail mount and a rail scope. Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder could install them perfectly without damage for you.
