Yes it is..But it has its Benifits! The illumination helps alot in a really dim situation even though you may see the animal in the twilight or woods the crosshairs will not be as easy to see...
As far as ring height it depends alot on barrel contour and how fast the diameter drops down past the the receiver...So in some applications Med height will be close but will work..others High Rings...
