Swarovski NL PURE 14x52 or other NL Bino, have or used - your opinion, any comments? thx in advance

tower- I actually use the 8x32's probably 80% of the time. I went with the 32 mm for a slightly smaller package. For glassing at my most common distances, i.e. a mile or less, they are perfect. Easier to carry and I use them to spot game, not try to score animals. The 12's are more for the long distance work. Antelope, sheep and elk in the open. My 12's have the forehead rest and an Outdoorsman stud so are pretty steady to handhold, but can put them on a tripod if need be. I'd analogize the 8 to my ATC Swaro spotting scope. I grab the small ATC 90% of the time over my 95mm as it is easier to pack and meets my needs most of the time. Fwiw, I also have 8x30 CL and 10x30 CL's. They are my truck binos and for closer distance glassing. I'm afraid to total how much I have invested in Swaro glass!!
sounds like you get most glassing at long range done with 12s. helps that you have tried head rest i saw online as another man recommended this as well. . very good info, thx

I carried a pair of NL 14x52's in December with me on a sheep hunt in Sonora. Mated up with a RRS tripod they were pretty incredible for some medium to long range glassing. They replaced some 15x56 SLC's I had for years. I think the glass is beyond compare of anything I've looked through. Clarity edge to edge and brightness was excellent. The NL's are quite a bit lighter and smaller than the SLC's and that took a bit to get used to on the tripod. We had a couple really hot days and I don't recall any distortion with the heat waves like I have on the SLC's. Hands down, they are one of the best pieces of glass available and I look forward to more sheep hunts where you spend a ton of time behind the bino's.

very good field report. thx sir. regarding distortion or heat wave or shimmer, you did not notice any? at about what ranges were you glassing? i used my old 15x56 slc from 2010 out to 1 mile + to locate game but need a spotter to see how nice the antlers or horns were. you sound like very happy with the NL bino so thx

I went with the NL 8x32. Love em….Lens coatings and glass are just that much better than the EL’s. I don’t know how but shows. Great field of view, on paper slightly less than the 42s but I like the smaller size and don’t feel I missed out with the smaller pair. And I can’t say at dusk and dawn that I’m sacrificing any extra available light. Since I sit and spot and stalk more often, they fit the bill perfectly. If I’m on big field I keep a separate rangefinder handy if the situation requires.

excellent info thx. yes the 8x32 i tried, very light and magnification did not matter, but not had chance to use outside, in mountains and like you said, the low light conditions are when you or at least I need the good glass. thx

The Leica Noctovids were neck and neck but I’m happy I went with the NL swaros. Swaro service, if ever required is the best there is.

That was a ram I took 2 years ago in Sonora...in December, I went with a buddy who was trying to complete his Grand Slam - he took a nasty fall on day 3, broke his arm and the hunt was over...in fact I was glassing a ram with the NL's when I got a call on the radio that he had fallen and busted his arm. Back another year I guess...the Mexican hospital we visited, well, there's a story in itself!

No, the glass is super clear - sometimes with the SLC's you will get some weird distortions with heatwaves - I did not notice anything like that with the NL's but honestly, I have not spent but a couple days behind the glass.

Thank you, I think I'm going to take a hard look at those 8x32s and your recommendation is very helpful.

very good info and i agree. have you tried the head rest yet? only see online but hope to find a vendor that will allow me to try. thx for the info... much appreciated
Yes I have and use the forehead rest. It looks weird but once you get used to the extra stability it just seems normal. I recommend it. And it's easy to put on or take off in about 2 minutes.

great info, thx. do the 14x52 have much distortion , heat waves, shimmer, atmospheric refraction or what name others use for looking @ 1000 - 1500 or so yards / meters and the difficulty seeing clearly

I just purchased the 14x52 from the Europtic booth at the SCI show in Nashville back in January. So haven’t had them out in the heat yet.
