It's time I added a Cape Buffalo to my 9.3x62mm. I love cow hunts because they're affordable for me, making more frequent hunts possible.

How far beyond SA do I need to go to make this happen? Any recommendations I should look into?

Thanks,
Pud

Lots of options in Zim. Contact Len Taylor or CMS.

Why are you asking “how far beyond South Africa do I need to go to make this happen”? Does this mean you are not considering South Africa or don’t know about cow buffalo hunting opportunities there? I don’t want to assume.

Fair question. So far, in SA where I've hunted the .375 was the smallest allowed, even after asking about the 9.3.
If there are opportunities to hunt cow buff in SA using the 9.3 I'd certainly like to learn about it.

thanks

Yip, I was set to buy a sweet deal CZ over/under in 9.3x74 for my 1st RSA Buff Cow Hunt until I learned (told), minimum acceptable caliber: .375 H&H. A real bummer but ‘rules R rules’ & affordable new or used medium/big bores are very limited in my area right now.

I’m gonna troll this thread for other opportunities equally …

here,s one i shot with a ms in 9.3x62.above the red line in s.a. seven years ago.

I tried to find information on where 9.3x62 is legal in South Africa but can’t find it. From what I’ve read before, the 9.3 is legal in some provinces but not others. I don’t think many outfitters would object to using a 9.3 in reality though. I think you will have a difficult time finding a quality outfitter interested in a stand alone buffalo cow hunt outside of South Africa, especially during peak times of season. Zimbabwe would have the most opportunity and best price, but from my understanding many of the cows on quota go towards lion bait or an extra on to someone’s main hunt. Maybe consider an end of season hunt in a place like Save Valley if you can’t find a hunting opportunity in South Africa.

I’m sorry, but can someone explain the love for cow Buffalo hunting?? Other than conservation/management, I don’t get it??

Until you have done it, it’s hard to explain.
I have only hunted Buff Bull twice and cow one time this last year.
The cow hunt was more challenging to me, trying to find the right cow(dry non breeder) in a herd of around 40 animals. There were herd Bull and smaller bulls cows and calves. The adrenaline rush when we found ourselves between the main herd and lead Bull and he winded us. Made hair stand up on my neck.

I am hooked so bad on Buff that I booked another Bull /Cow combo for May 2022 trip.

This conversation is helping me decide to go for a Buff bull and cow hunt for my next trip, after this year. Will definitely follow this thread.

The Cape Ordinance from 1974 is what regulates hunting in the Eastern Cape. The minimum requirements for Buffalo may be somewhat of a surprise to some. On the other hand, most, if not all, Buffalo in the Eastern Cape is under fence so then again other rules apply.
Good luck with the research.

It’s simply $$ & cents … a Cow vs. Bull Hunt is basically a similar Thrill Ride @ a fraction (1/3) the cost of a straight-forward Bull Hunt.

The Hunt: Cows whether calf bearing or not tend to remain a herd animal & that brings allot of eyes, ears, & noses to properly navigate on stalk for a close range shot vs. as example, pursuing a solo Dugga Boy or small Dugga group. Another Thrill Ride w/ different hunt factors …

For me - affordable Thrill Ride & to hone proper Buff Hunting skills for that future Dugga. All proper hunting is conservation/management. Happy Trails.

Whoever has been talking to you should have told you that 9.3 is the same as a .375 but stated in millimeters.

Whenever I take the 9.3x62mm to the regular hunting rifle challenges I've learned not to call it by it's proper name as it always prompts the follow up question "what's that?".

Instead, I simply refer to it as the ".366 Bock". The response is usually "Oh, ok".

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
Ready for the hunt with HTK Safaris

Hello:
I’ll take the .375 Whitworth for $1,150 if the deal falls through.
Thanks .
