    Elephant hunting Paranoid

In most of the videos where I’ve seen charges, the opening shot was not properly done. STUDY ELEPHANT ANATOMY. Things happen and the hunting of elephants absolutely must be treated with respect and seriousness. But it goes well the vast majority of the time.

    Japan hunters Scared of bears

I I imagine educating any semblance of a warrior ethic out of the population was a high priority during the post-war occulation. Sounds like mission accomplished. .

Safari Season 2024 Has Started - Where We Going?

Heading tomorrow to Capetown for a few days of city stuff then up to the Caprivi for buffalo with my son. Then we’ll have nearly two weeks without a plan. We’ll figure it out when we get there.

Do I carry Scope in carry-on? Checked luggage? Attached to rifle in locked box itself?(Joberg/SA Flight, United)

meds may be hard to replace; definitely carry on. I usually pack a change of clothes in carry-on, at least underwear and socks but there’s stores in Africa. The one thing you must absolutely have is broken-in boots. Everything else can be replaced with proper application of money. But...

Do I carry Scope in carry-on? Checked luggage? Attached to rifle in locked box itself?(Joberg/SA Flight, United)

Leave it on the rifle. The scope won’t be useful without the rifle anyway so keep them together. The cargo hold is at the same pressure as the cabin. If your rifle case can’t protect your scope it won’t protect your rifle and the solution is to get an adequate case, not remove the scope.

Help me pick my next R8 caliber

I’d add a 30-06. Makes sense to stick with a bolt head family- one less part to drop and lose somewhere somehow.

How far can you expect to shoot an elephant?

I was really impressed with how it only took him about a half second to recover from what had to have been a very strong “WTF?!!” Reaction to calmly encouraging the hunter and sorting things out. That is extreme professionalism!

How far can you expect to shoot an elephant?

What’s amazing to me is that he posted it on YouTube for all to see.

How far can you expect to shoot an elephant?

Based on the groan he let out at the shot, I agree!

How far can you expect to shoot an elephant?

On the one hand, 145 yards is quite far for elephant. On the other hand, if you are taking a lung shot, you’d have to be fairly incompetent to miss at that range. It’s a lot better than this travesty: I think we can all agree that a hip shot at a departing elephant isn’t an appropriate...

How far can you expect to shoot an elephant?

29 yards for mine. You aren’t obligated to take a shot. If offered a shot at 140 yards (odds are very low anyone would offer that shot), you can politely turn it down. And as mentioned above, tell your PH you are looking to take a shot at no more than whatever distance is your comfortable...

Scientists Call For Halt To Elephant Hunting Along Kenya-Tanzania Border

I understand WHY they burn it (to avoid the carcass being poisoned), I’d just like to know HOW they did it.

    Question for military/LE

It’s pretty compact, decent terminal effect, Good magazine capacity, accurate. Makes sense for law enforcement, hostage rescue, if you want to take prisoners, avoid collateral casualties, and/or you think there is something in the room that you want intact for intelligence purposes. But for...

Scientists Call For Halt To Elephant Hunting Along Kenya-Tanzania Border

Based on the amount of wood it took for me to burn two goats to bone, I’d say the real risk was deforestation if they indeed burned an elephant. Love to know how they did it because clearly I was doing something wrong.

    Blaser R8 Owner in USA

Linseed oil generates heat as it oxidizes. If oily rags that are piled up or bunched up such that they insulate themselves, enough heat can build up to start a fire. It’s not going to start a fire in the can or on the stock. Not that you are likely to use a bunch of rags repairing some...
