Large expensive game is out of my reach and interests. Our trip may truly be one and done because of other circumstances. So, to me that baboon will be worth it. Back to my original question, the permits are applied for after the fact? Not required in hand before?

$200 for a permit and the cost of taking a baboon seems like a no brainer to me.

So the permit only gets applied for after the harvest when it’s ready to ship home? My outfitters US agent was going to add baboon to my agenda when we head to SA May of ‘23 and mentioned needing to apply for a permit.

If you’re asking me, Sir, Chicago. About 3.5 hours away. The gentleman handling my affairs has gotten back to me and says my crate can get shipped right to my door once cleared, if that’s what I prefer.

WTH, I got nothing. I’ll take another look.

Everything I entered shows nothing to display. I’m not worrying. Just hate surprises and spending on governmental fees.

That’s what I am trying to plan. I would be shipping home finished mounts.

I’ve been searching around my area in Wisconsin and have not found a USDA certified taxidermist. None of this makes any sense if the animal is all ready mounted and simply adds wasted money to the trip. Adding up all the damn fees, Africa isn’t so cheap after all.

Warthogs need a CITES?

I was going to have all my taxidermy done in SA.

Waiting for my outfitter to get back to me on this. Is bringing a CITES animal back to the US from SA a big issue or does it cost more other than the permit? Are there other delays or anything else associated with it if it comes back with my other animals?

I can agree with that with one exception, Why would I chance being miserable for 3 days on a trip I'm paying for and chance missing opportunities when I can avoid it? Years ago I had what I considered a cast iron gut. As I age, things have become far less predictable. Gotta go with what I know.

I read and have been told to only drink bottled water to avoid the 2-3 days of gut rot. How about the coffee or tea in the mornings? Is the water hot enough to kill anything bad? I haven't asked the outfitter yet if they use bottled water for this.
