    9.3x62mm vs. .375 H&H Mag

This! I'm going to do this very thing! My old shoulder doesn't like recoil like it used to! Loading the .375 down to factory 9.3X62 factory levels seems a sensible option!

Dinosaur Hunting Guns: Taking Down T-Rex and Other Extinct Reptiles

Ok, the .375 H&H Magnum it is! Now let's talk ammo! If we're going to break him down & immobilize him, I suggest a 300gr solid, they will penetrate!

Dinosaur Hunting Guns: Taking Down T-Rex and Other Extinct Reptiles

I clearly stated survival NOT sport hunting. Wanting to survive I chose a flame thrower not a firearm! I wasn't out to hang a trophy on the wall, but go home that night. I also have a lot of respect for the .375 H&H Mag. A Professional hunter told me the .375 is effective above it's paper...

Dinosaur Hunting Guns: Taking Down T-Rex and Other Extinct Reptiles

Having just read the whole thread, I'm not sure we're talking about sport hunting. Taking down a T Rex & other extinct reptiles. I'm not sure we're sport hunting here. At any rate my choice would be a flame thrower similar to what was used in WW2. I have seen documentaries of WW2 with a flame...

I almost forgot, I did take a Prong Horn Antelope with the 140gr Hornaday Spire Pt interlock with the 6.5 Creedmoor. I've said before I consider the 6.5 Creedmoor as the 6.5X55 in a readily available rifle.

    40 S&W cartridge- how good?

A lot has been made over the improvement in 9mm bullets. This is true, but it's also true for almost every other handgun bullet too so I take that with a grain of salt. When things get hairy it's shot placement that counts. Bill Jordan distilled it nicely. " speeds fine, accuracy is final"!

    9.3x62 vs 375H&H

Just read the whole thread & one thing I missed if it was mentioned is the .375 H&H Mag can easily be made into a 9.3X62 if you reload. Just use starting loads or just over starting loads & bingo you have a 9.3X62 with a slightly larger diameter bullet. My shoulder not being what it was when I...

6.5x55 Win M70- Nosler ballistic tip and Hornady Interlok bullets

I have taken a number of animals with the Hornaday Interlock, up to & including our Elk. I've had great results. I think if you stay in the velocity design limits, I don't run them over 2800fps, you will have good results.

Tintin, I have a Funny but true story. Several years ago I was in a gun shop in Butte. There was a pretty Ruger #1 on the rack & I asked the young salesman to look at it. Powders for 175gr bullets in 7X57

I'm not looking for specific load data, I have several good loading manuals for that. I'd like to know what powders have given great accuracy with 175gr bullets in your 7X57s aka .275 Rigby. Thanks!

At 7X57 velocities, the std cup & core preform beautifully. I really don't feel you need a premium bullet particularly if you're using 150gr & up. As I've said before, I like the 175gr bullets. The sectional density is very high & this indicates great penetration.

My dream rifle? I'd love a double, I've taken a lot of phesants behind a good Lab. with a nice SKB 12 bore double. My shoulders not being what they used to be, I'd like a nice double in a managable caliber. The caliber might be .375 H&H Flanged or .275 Rigby flanged. Another dream rifle would...

Boy, the 7-08 is a good ctg. However no one could live on the difference between the two. I'll go with the .275/7X57 because I LIKE 175gr bullets & some 7-08 magazines are too short. The neck can be too short for heavy bullet to seat normally. I'll go with the 7X57/.275!!!

I've seen a lot of recent threads on the 9.3s, .303s, .318s, & other fine ctgs. I'm pretty fond of the good old 7X57 or as some say .275 Rigby. Where I am deer & elk are on the list. I feel the 7X57 is completely adequate! Others thoughts?

Weatherby offers the Vanguard in .375 H&H mag. The .375 H&H can easily be loaded to 9.3X62 velocities.

Best .45 ACP round for black bear protection

There is considerable difference between hunting & defense. In hunting you pick your shots. Place one through the lungs/heart & bingo get set for hero pictures. Be attacked by a bear, you need to stop the attack NOW! You do this by taking out the brain or breaking him down. You need all the...

Best .45 ACP round for black bear protection

I have to agree with John, Black Bears are very dangerous! If I had to carry a .45ACP I'd carry a 230gr flat point (after being sure it worked reliably in my gun) if you have to use it you want penetration not expansion! Living in Montana we have several bear attacks each year black & Grizz you...

Creating my perfect Dangerous Game rifle

This would be my question too? I'm the new kid on the block, but the old .470 NE has been stopping bad situations for a very long time. I just looked again & the .470 NE uses a 480gr bullet at about 2150fps. Wouldn't the .460 Weatherby with a 500gr bullet loaded to 2150fps work as well? The...

A fun article about Bob's 2nd favorite caliber

I think it was named that because it was designed as a long range target ctg. Creedmoor was a famous range. The Creedmoor just gravitated to a hunting ctg. Some, myself included, bought it because it was avaiable in a rifle I wanted & the Swede was not. Will it do anything the Swede won't do...

general purpose bullet for the 6.5x55 cartridge

I think standard cup & core bullets are fine in the 6.5s. Those bullets were designed for velocities in the 2,700 + or - range. This takes in the 6.5 Jap, 6.5X55, & the newer Creedmor. Use a cup & core in these & you'll be pleased with the results. My favorite is the old Rem. Core Loct, next is...
