So I have an extra standard 50s vintage m70 action laying on the the bench. It gives me the itch to build something.its standard length and I don't want to Mill it to magnum size. in recent years I've gone a little model 70 nuts. i think I have six.plus barrels stocks and such. Have one magnum that's rechambered 300. Weatherby and two other stock hh's. anyhow was thinking of a smaller weatherby torch. either 240,257,or 270. whats everybody's favorite?.the 240 and 270 are easy 257 not so much.

What are your plans afterwards?

While the 240 Weatherby is a very unique cartridge I think that finding brass may be very tough.

For me I would go with the 257 Weatherby. It is a fantastic .25 caliber

Like the rest shoot holes in things.i was thinking maybe a western antelope gun .I have 2 standard 270s and a 98 Mauser in 6mm but it shoots the best with 85grainers plus it weighs a ton.243 barrels a easy to get so are 270s I have a 257 Roberts barrel that someone made an improved then choped it way down .I think 20 or 22 inch so that may be out .if I God forbid had a barrel made it would be 318 Westley Richards. I always wanted one.

.257 - not even close.

Well I got a line on a late Forty's 257 Roberts factory medium weight match barrel that was ruined to 2506.so would not be a leap to 257 weatherby

Easy the 257 Weatherby has been around a long time and if my memory is correct it was Roy's favourite. I have a fast 25 and it is unbelievable.

For what you want to hunt a 257 with a 100gn Barnes TTSX sighted 2 inches high at 100 yards drops 8 inches at 400 yards.
Jod done.

Well got a line on a 40s factory middleweight Target Winchester barrel that was 257 but now ruined at 25-06 so this may play out perfect

Well,if it was still in 257 Roberts a prewar medium weight model 70 would be a hard one to find to that end it's ruined.theres nothing wrong with a 25-06 some years back I had an m1 grand chambered in it and was quite fun to shoot.and to screw it in an action check the headspace and go would be simple enough which I still do.but lately had a facnation with weatherby calibers.since I already have a 300w thought a simple way of having a sub 300 weatherby.don't need another 30.06 already have 5 or 6 . May do a 9.3 someday down the road

257 Weatherby all day long, followed by the 270 Weatherby. The 257 Weatherby with either 80 or 100 TTSX is deadly on whitetail deer, kills them like if a lightning bolt from Zeus hit them. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
