What is it about 404 Jeffery?

I built/modified the mag box, was a standard size before I did. I still need to remake the follower to clean up the mods on it. As it is, it is about 1/16 of an inch too shallow to fit the last case in, case of just not quite enough depth Gumpy

What is it about 404 Jeffery?

What is it about 404 Jeffery?

My 404 is on a standard 98 Mauser action,I did most of the work at the rear end of the receiver leaving the front mostly alone, cycles fine, no hang ups. I still need to make a perch belly magazine floor metal for it, can’t quite fit in the last round Gumpy

    300 H&H

Red leg, you beat me to the punch with the win mag comment though I would have said "everything the win mag wanted to be" To the OP, that is one lovely looking rifle in a classic cartridge, and for hunting, a heavier bullet would probably work better Gumpy

    I blame Bob N 35 whelen

I may just happen to have around 100 original rounds and brass, as I was trying to buy one from a deceased estate, the guys at atomic 29 said they could make the projectiles for me. Unfortunately for me the rifle went to holts in the uk and was sold for a silly amount of money Gumpy

    CZ550 MAGNUM, 458WM Situation

This has been much like watching a train wreck ….. Aside from that, I am intrigued as to what is going on with this rifle:A Popcorn: Gumpy

    I blame Bob N 35 whelen

If bob doesn’t like the 243 win, how about we just get him a 242 nitro express (242vickers) instead, predates the slightly gay 243, classic rifles etc. would nicely complement a 35 whelan…. Gumpy

    I blame Bob N 35 whelen

With those others I mentioned, they didn’t have approval, and me calling her stupid was an accurate description, the bit I was trying to explain was that she was singled out for being an idiot whilst the others weren’t, though Irwin was criticised. Did you see the short clip of her picking up...

    I blame Bob N 35 whelen

That, I assume, is a reference to that stupid "influencer " who picked up the baby wombat, storm in a teacup, it was alright for various other people, mostly male, to pick them up in the past (Steve Irwin, Malcom Douglas Leyland bros etc) but, shock, horror, a female who supports hunting , no...

What Watch do you wear when you hunt?

I performed an experiment, I wore my father in law’s watch when I went out hunting and then went out again without a watch, made zero difference to the hunt. I could have worn my antique Rolex but a) it’s too valuable to traipse around with it where it could get damaged, and b) I’d look silly...

Nitro for Black: which available powders?

Trail boss is mainly for reduced loads, and it has a nasty little secret in that if you stuff as much in the case as you can and compress it, it can detonate and cause you injury or death and worse, damage the firearm Gumpy

Regulating express style iron sights on a dangerous game rifle

That is a good idea. I’ve got a simple jig to file the "v" notch, (so simple it looks like a piece of wood with some aluminium stewed to it :A Whistle: )but if you take too much off you are stuffed, a plastic sacrificial piece is a much better option Gumpy

The Future Dangerous Game Guns and Ammo Thread

I have, and it’s better cousin, the Strasser, which I preferred, but I didn’t really like either. But , as it’s not my rifle, my opinion doesn’t really matter. As long as the owners are happy. Even if they wear dresses…………:A Stirring: Gumpy

Let's see your bolt knob checkering - looking for ideas.

I think some bolt checkering is just for show, but mostly it’s to provide better grip when cycling the bolt, wet, slippery hands can grip the bolt knob better than a smooth one Gumpy

    crossbolts

Building a Rifle on a Tight Budget

The way I view it is, it’s your rifle , you are putting it together to suit your needs/wants, so who cares what it looks like. As long as it does what you want it to. Just a shame the bolt is on the wrong side…..(insert stirring emoticon here) Gumpy

30-06 Rifle for Plains Game - How Big?

Fun story re bob's favourite 243 and the stupidity of the SA firearms branch, friend got a krico rifle in factory chambering of 6x51, apparently rare, anyway firearms refused to register it as it wasn’t a known cartridge, so he tried 6-08, and they wouldn’t accept that either, then he asked them...

Bullet yaw in this Youtube video

Ballistics is a complex subject that is often misunderstood, a basic concept is (as explained to me by a ballastician ) is a bullet leaves the barrel unstable, think of all the forces acting against it, and enters the supersonic stage, and at a certain point/distance it settles down as it...
