Chapuis double have the wedge out the front other than when I looked at it on the first Chapuis I bought it.
The rifle shot VERY well and I never gave it consideration again. I have owned 4 different Chapuis over the years and the 9.3 RGEX in my safe is my Favorite rifle I own.
I echo what @PHOENIX PHIL and @Bwana91 said a fantastic Camp, food, lodging deep in the bush.
Also can't say enough good about Jaco and all his people. Very well ran operation.
Book and go have the hunt of a lifetime.
Just tell her she is shrink and it is all in her head :A Bang Head: Plus if you have to explain it she or her friends just wouldn't understand. :A Stirring:
I am blessed as my wife is affected with the same african bug as me
You can also shoot a lite 22LR off the sticks at 75-100 yards and refine your skills off sticks as any small error is magnified big time. In addition dryfire practice with snap caps in your 404 will pay dividends.
Get you can shoot the rifle with each different hash mark at 100. Measure the distance they are apart on the paper then sit down with a ballistic program and correlate where they will hit based on your hundred yard zero based on the actual ballistics of your load and rifle. Once you do the math...
@Bob Nelson 35Whelen I looked at that same site for dies along with a couple here in the US. Still waiting for CH4D to reply to my request. They usually take a couple business days so I will most likely hear mon-tue timeframe. Will reach out to @RAVEN ROCKS PRECISION on the woodleigh 310's...
@Dave Fulson Thank you. In my lifetime I never expected to own a London's best, even if it is 48 years older than me. Once JJ finishes the crack repair I look forward to working up some loads and deciding how to get it to africa.
@coreydb With the weight of the rifle I expect it to recoil about...
Well about two months ago I got a call from one of the LGS owners if I had a bit of time could I stop by and look at a couple double rifles he just picked up.
I an in a small town in southern AZ so I went in the door expecting him to pull out a Sabatti or one of the Bakials. We head back to...
I forgot to answer your question. I have shot woodleigh 286 and 320's I was only able to do shortened load development as I only had a box of each bullet. Both shot well but to date haven't killed anything but steel with them. Have shot norma and laupua bullets. They shot well but again...
Nice looking rifle. I took my 500/416 to Moz last fall and it is now my second favorite rifle I own. (My 9.3 double is my favorite)
I was so impressed with the way it has shot and laid on enough reloading supplied to last me a lifetime. I also sold off or traded my larger doubles as this...
In 2015 I used a 450NE double on a buffalo. In my load development I chose the 500gr Aframes and CEB solids. In my testing (They were the first gen DGX) they came apart big time in testing against water jugs. I regulated them to practice rounds. Would have been ok for PG but cats but never...
The desire to have something that fits you both emotional and physically is something only you can answer. For me a high quality wood wins every time! Never be afraid to take it out to hunt. They make more finish and sandpaper, but the dents and scratches you put on it tell a story. your call...
I always find the "What is the best" of anything interesting reads. Whether it is cars, guns, food etc.
Kinda like one guy likes big busted Blondes, another Tall Stately Brunette, Ravishing redheads or the wildchild with purple and green hair ( @Altitude sickness here is your 416 Cheytac).
Find...
Have flown delta 6 times and Qatar 2 times. Both have given us good service.
I prefer the delta out of atlanta option. Get the rifles checked in Tucson and see them again at SAPS in joberg. Never had any problems. Overnight at the city lodge and then a short flight or ground transport the...
I am one of the guys that @Green Chile helped with getting a set of 8x30 Swaro's. long story short my wife adopted them for her buffalo hunt and you can't pry them from her fingers. He also helped me replace them with a set of 8x42 Leica RF binos. At SCI I bought a set of 12.5x50 Tract binos...
@One Day... When I load for a rifle I use the hornaday case length tool to establish where each bullet touches the lands is my first operation. I have found that the 286 Aframes and Nosler 250 accubonds are the most accurate 20 thousands off the lands in my rifles.
I use the 300's in my 9.3x74...
In my 9.3 the RL17 and Big game both get a 286gr over 2500fps with no problems.
Both my 9.3x62's have a long throat so my limitation in mag box length.
Going to start to workup some loads with CFE223 to see What is possible with it.
Steve,
As a retired engineer I understand your thought process.
Just don't let the paralysis by analysis loop get you wrapped around the axle.
You won't go wrong with either.
Dave
I went to their web site and the trigger looks like a pre64 win style. Simple adjustable and solid style of trigger.
On the Tsavo is the wood on this rifle going to be the same grade for the 375 when released? Or is it upgraded wood?
I was going to say that do you like fiddle back or dark figure in the stock the most? but since you have made the fiddle back blank your pick. Look forward to seeing the finished product.
