On the wall, FINALLY

I killed a cape buffalo and baboon in Mozambique in late August of 2021

I picked up them up in Atlanta on 1/6/2023.

I took them to the taxidermist the next week.

I still don't have the mounts.

3 years, 8 months and still counting...
Not to derail, but. Who is your taxidermist and have they communicated any reason for such a long wait?
I like to use US taxidermist but I keep hearing story after story about lengthy delivery times and increasing prices.

I went on my first cape buffalo hunt in 2022, having been postponed from 2020 due to Covid. I was able to take a nice buff and some really nice PG in Namibia. It took until August of 2024 to get the finished taxidermy home. Due to being gone on another Safari, hurricane Helene and my daughter getting married all last year and the fact I have to have help and a lift to hang stuff in my great room, the undertaking was put off until yesterday, when my son in law was up and my best friend’s son in law were in town to help. All it cost me was a nice dinner for everybody at the local Mexican restaurant and the cost of renting the lift. All minuscule compared to the amount of enjoyment I will have when I am reminded of that hunt and many others sitting in my great room. The new additions to the wall are the lechwe, sable and cape buffalo. Some other stuff got rearranged and this is the final view. My wife says I’m running out of room. In two to three weeks I will be hanging some heavy animals up high on my walls. What type lift did you use please? Did it enable two men to get on it? My Cape Buff is just too heavy to hang without two people especially given he is going 16 feet up. Appreciate your thoughts and experience

It was just a small, 15 foot electric lift. Not sure of the brand but the type you can rent from most rental places. The type used in construction typically for installing wiring, lights, etc in gyms and the like. I think my wife might have taken a few pictures, I’ll see if I can find out if she did and if so, I’ll send you some pictures. I would recommend 4 folks, if possible. 2 in the lift and 2 to hand the heavier mounts up to the folks in the lift. Feel free to shoot me a DM and we can exchange numbers and I’ll be happy to discuss our process and answer any questions. Looking forward to seeing your room.

It was something like this. Not quite this big

Very nicely done. The wall height gives you some great options.

Very very nice trophy room, and really nice trophies! I agree with those who say that having the mounts vs just pictures means a lot to them. Do whatever makes you happy. I have started getting bigger Canvas Prints made of my animals and scenes from the hunts, but they are there to add to the mounts, not replace them. Also, I can get the prints back in days, so it gives me something to enjoy before the taxidermy makes it home.

The guys I really feel bad for are the ones who say something like: “my wife won’t let me hang any mounts in the house”.

I plan on doing one of the canvas prints of my hippo to add on the wall, near where I am displaying the hippo skull. I have several of those prints with landscape pictures I have taken on my various hunts. If I'm able to get an elephant this year, I will to the same with replica tusks and a picture.

As far as my wife or anybody for that matter telling me what I can and cannot do, well that wouldn't work too well for me. Luckly for me, me and my wife work well together, and we both understand the art of compromise. She actually has a real great eye for arranging and placement of the taxidermy. She was responsible for the layout of what we just did Saturday. When we designed and built the house, the great room and basement were designated for taxidermy display and the rest of the house was hers to decorate as she saw fit. We have made it work, and I am grateful for such a blessing.

Very Nice trophy room!

@Fatback , that’s pretty much the arrangement my wife and I have. It works really well. Mine is pretty simple, I got the closed in 2 car garage and she has the balance of the house except a row of my hand carved decoys in the living room.
