    Package for four first-time hunters

I hunted with Frontier Safaries north of Port Elizabeth a couple years ago. They offer a number of packages for plains game. I did their 10 day 12 animal, which is the best deal but they also offer a 7 day one.

Leupold CDS setting recommendations for a .375 H&H

A nice thing with sending the dial out to Leopold is that you can put any elevation and temperature in for your dial that you want. Same with a ballistic program, at least on the one that I have. I can set it for any temperature or elevation that I am likely to hunt in.

Leupold CDS setting recommendations for a .375 H&H

I'd get the load that you are shooting shot over a chronograph and then run it through a ballistics program to see just what it is doing with a 100 yard zero out at 300 yards. Then make a decision. For DG you might even zero it at 150 yards, but you can play with that on the ballistics prgram.

Leupold CDS setting recommendations for a .375 H&H

I'd still sight it in at 100 and set the dial up for longer shots

Leupold CDS setting recommendations for a .375 H&H

I'd just zero at 100 yards and forget about the dial. The CDS scopes are really for long range shooting. I have one on my 25-06 and will shoot out to 600 yards with it. Sighted in at 250 yards it's dropping around 4+ feet at 600. That's where a CDS shines where you don't have to use Kentucky...

    Lioness with revolver

Sounds like a quite interesting time. A year ago I went looking for some hunting bullets for my 44 and 357 and all I could find were the Hornady XTP's, and was skeptical of them performing like a hunting bullet should. I have hunted big game here in the western US with a pistol for over 40...

Big question is, where are you hunting? It does no good if you are hunting in the northern part of South Africa and someone recommends one in Port Elizabeth.

Getting mixed answers on bringing ammo into South Africa

Spring is hitting full force. I haven't been up to Coffee Pot for a few years. I need to get up there and do some fishing. Did you hear about the bus that got stuck up there after they tore the oil pan out? This was a few years ago after Glenwood Canyon was shut down due to landslides that...

Getting mixed answers on bringing ammo into South Africa

You can't bring in ammo unless you have a rifle to use it in. No rifle, no ammo.

    Traveling with ammo

On both my trips to South Africa I really didn't worry too much about either my rifle or my ammo, I figured why should I worry about something that is out of my control. I had decided that if one or both didn’t show up that I would just use the outfitters rifle and ammo. I'm a believer in not...

Help Me Choose Magnification for an "All Around" Hunting Rifle

I personally believe that the most versatile scope out there is a 3-9x40, and that's why 3 of my big game rifles wear them. I have popped the heads off of grouse at 5 yards and shot elk at 600 yards with the rifles that they sit on.

    $1k budget for Scope

I've been shooting through Leopold's for over 40 years, don't see any reason to change. For a 06 with the ranges that you mentioned I'd go with a 3-9x40.

    CBP Form 4457 Questions

    CBP Form 4457 Questions

As a fyi, a 4457 never expires, you can use that one that you got 40 years ago to reenter the US. However to get your rifle into South Africa you have to play by their rules. And according to the South African Police if the form date is past the time that you enter it is expired. Don't even...

    CBP Form 4457 Questions

I have learned that when dealing with people in authority who can make your life a living hell that you bite your lip and just answer their questions. I also found that if you have a short time for a connecting flight to just ask if you can cut the line, don't start yelling that you need to...

    460 accuracy

You are going to have to find the load for your pistol that it likes. Also if you are not used to shooting a heavy recoiling handgun I suggest that you download it and do a lot of practice with it. For dies get a set with a carbide sizing die, this will eliminate the need of sizing lube on...

AH ending use of TapaTalk App

TT has a problem across all the forums. When there is a problem they blame it on the forum itself and don't bother to fix it even when it is proven that it is their problem. Just use your browser that is already on your phone, if you don't already.

If we start asking the recipient to post something up of equal or more value we might as well as just shut this post down right now. Those Van Guff knifes are pricey. I'm not saying that the recipient should just put something up that cost just a few dollars but the intent of this was to get...

    Shotgun choices for a Woman

I'd take her down to a good supplied gun store and have her try some out. She sounds small enough that you might have to have one even cut down to get it to fit properly. If you shoot skeet take her out to the range on ladies night/day and talk to some of the other shooters and see if they...

    Elk guide recommendations

First question is, what size of a bull is he looking for? Utah has some very fine elk hunts on private property that a outfitter will run. When I first started buying guns I bought them for a specific purpose. Funny thing is, I still do. It is surprising at how many things that you need a different gun for. What is the purpose of carrying a knife out in a safari..

My Buck pocket knife with a 3" blade has done all that and more. It's as the saying goes, I rather have one and not need it than need one and not have it. Like Hank, I have had a knife with me ever since I was in first grade at the age of 6 except for now on planes where it is in my checked bag. It is the first thing that goes into my pocket when I change...
