    Another Buffalo Shot Angle

I was dove hunting (shooting) in Cordova shortly after the lion charge video came out. Turns out Ronnie's son was interning at the ranch. Ronnie shows up and one thing leads to another and he shows me the video. His comment was something to the effect "that was the last time I shot a bolt...

    Dove Hunting in Argentina

I am thinking about going to Argentina for a dove hunt, ideally in 2025. I have heard that the drought has severely diminished the dove populations around Cordoba. I am looking for feed back from hunters who have gone recently. Thanks Bill

    Westley Richards Shotgun Help

rgsiii To reinforce your comments on pressure, notice that the WR only has a top extension for locking. Although from a leverage view it is good, it is the only thing that keeps the action closed. These should only be used with light loads. Plus they typically pattern better with lower...

    Westley Richards Shotgun Help

One thing to remember. Shotguns have no "collector" value. I am talking about in comparison to Colt Single actions etc. I consider this a good thing. Shotguns have value because they are beautiful and you can hunt with them. If it's not beautiful and doesn't shoot it has no value. I have...

    Westley Richards Shotgun Help

I agree completely with your bolt action rifle comments. The difference here is that the bearing points for a box lock are where it hits the action and these can be clearly seen in the photographs. This is where probably 90% of the recoil is taken up. The scalloped action is terribly difficult...

    Westley Richards Shotgun Help

Just curious, why would you care who restocked it? The work is fabulous. It is perfectly "headed up" even with the scalloped action. The wood stands proud just the right amount. Proportions on the stock are excellent. The leather covered pad is very nice. Whatever his/her name is, their...

thi9elsp - Everything is great until it isn't. Training and experience is the difference. I know nothing about Egypt Air. The 737 Maxx never had an issue in the US. I can guarantee that having a 200 hr Total Time Co Pilot is a bad idea.

Cape Buffalo Engraving on Double Rifle

I probably shouldn't get into this but..... No, a sidelock is not easier to either build nor assemble. A box lock has a sear, hammer, cocking lever and spring. That is it. The only critical dimensions and fitting is the hammer/sear interface. There are pins instead of screws (typically)...

Not Rifle Related But Needed For Protection Of My Eyes

Oops I didn't realize that you were in SA. Interstate Battery is a nationwide chain here in the states that replaces batteries in virtually everything. If they can take it apart they can replace the battery. Can you tell if the device is glued together or if it is screwed/snapped?

    How safe are safteys?

Hmmm surprised I am the first one to address this but here goes. I don't trust safeties on most guns, but there are exceptions. Here is a gunsmith perspective The vast majority of safeties are simply devices that keep the trigger from being pulled. Included in this list are most (but not...

REPORT: Trophaendienste Taxidermy Namibia - Beware

Reisers did my work in 2013. Burchells, Mountain Zebra, Gemsbock, Kudu, Black Wildebeast, Impala, Sable and Cape Buffalo. I am very satisfied with the results. All mounts were shipped very well secured in wooden crates. Most were pedestal mounts with a couple of shoulder mounts. Bill

Dennis yours will look good. I wound up with this for a couple of reasons. First I simply told the taxidermist in Namibia to make a pedestal mount, so this is what I got. Second I liked the little "Africa" cutouts that support he mount.

Thanks. You know all those stories about how good the native trackers are. Tracked the wounded sable for two days into the National Park, with permission. Unbelievable tracks everywhere. And they knew which ones to follow. Hope to return to the Caprivi when oil prices go back up.

I just found this forum, not sure why I never found it earlier. I am a newby to Africa. I went to Namibia in 10/13 and hunted the Caprivi with Mike Kibble. Went primarily for buff but also stumbled upon a really nice sable. I made all the pedestals. Cape Buffalo Sable Oryx Kudu Black...
