No need to go to the gym for a while after a day like that! Back in the day when I was young and dumb I would go do that! My hats off to you. Beautiful AJ’s.
I agree that he is honestly trying to do what’s best for the country but i can do without all of the bloviating .
Not one reason in the world talking about a third term or taking over Canada and Greenland.
Not in Trumps DNA to play second fiddle to anyone. He just needs to shut his mouth (next to impossible for him) do what’s best for the country and go away in 2028.
Not to derail, but. Who is your taxidermist and have they communicated any reason for such a long wait?
I like to use US taxidermist but I keep hearing story after story about lengthy delivery times and increasing prices.
I really hate to see this for you guys!
A lot of good it does but I saw the other day that SCI has kicked him out. Maybe they can get involved somehow and lobby the government. If they did it would probably be at extortion prices. I would think they would have a tough time determining what was...
I agree wholeheartedly! A lot of people are just taking quality photos of African trophies these days due to the cost and hassle of shipping and taxidermy. While getting some satisfaction out of these photos to me the actual mount or skull really brings out the memories!
I will most likely stop...
I had never been a fan of the newer wall pedestal style mounts UNTIL I zoomed in on your lechwe! The way it shows off the black on the upper legs running into the shoulders is absolutely perfect!! If I ever shoot another it will definitely get that pose!
Great room!
One of the great things about Texas is if it’s not a whitetail, mule deer, pronghorn or desert bighorn you don’t need anything but a general hunting license as far as big game goes.
I’m with you on that, they priced me out of using them for any higher volume safaris since about 2018. They were great though, delivered my mounts to my door and even put the trophies on the walls for me at least the ones I knew where they were going.
I used D&L back in 2015 for my 2014 safari, they were great and had no issues whatsoever. They were recommended by my Michigan based taxidermist.
I have since moved to Coppersmiths because I can pick up my crates at their warehouse in Atlanta.
This could be an interesting story! What was he hunting turkeys with that could take down a lechwe? In Texas can you hunt spring turkey with a rifle? Are any of the neighboring ranches missing one of their relatively high dollar lechwe bulls?
A couple of the ranches I’ve hunted turkey and...
My mother went to JMU and played basketball, she is from Port Republic. My dad is from Waynesboro and went to Bridgewater and played football, I’ve spent a lot of time in the valley when my grandparents were alive. Either hunting ducks in the winter or fishing for smallmouth in the rivers.
I live on the coast now , I need to re-power our boat but outboard motors cost more than my first house now days. I used to fly fish quite a bit, about 30 miles east of Auburn is the Chattahoochee river, it has a tremendous run of hybrid striped bass in the spring and I caught one that was just...
I know some great fishing spots and back in the day some pretty good waterfowl spots. Don’t know how they are now.
Most if not all of my old deer and turkey hunting spots are subdivisions now.
Really good spotted bass, striped bass, hybrid bass and crappie fishing within an hour or so drive...
Great place, I grew up in Auburn. My mother was a kindergarten teacher and my father was a professor in the fisheries department. They are both retired now but still live there.
Of course it’s no longer the place I grew up in but is still a wonderful g to own.
I was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 1986 out of Auburn university and my parents Made me start putting money away every month . My career only lasted five years and topped out in AAA. By then I had a pretty good nest egg and finished college soon after. Took a consulting job for the Alabama...
That’s been happening even without primates or swine in crates. I’ve tried to ship on Delta when possible, straight shot from Johanasburg to Atlanta.
In my opinion Turkish figured out they could hold crates just to make extra money, no proof just my suspicions.
I had 2 D&P warthogs come in and they did go to a USDA taxidermist, the Wildlife Gallery. A bushpig came in as finished taxidermy as did the baboon. If I see a huge warthog or bushpig in August I will not hesitate to shoot.
At this moment I’m planning on D&P and having my next shipment sent...
I’m not sure of all of the negativity about bringing home swine or primates. I’ve e brought home several pigs both bushpig and warthog and a baboon. I had no troubles whatsoever, not even any delays or extra cost. That being said the last pig was in 2022 and the baboon was in 2023, things may...
Other than a couple of ducks and an otter all of my mounts are in one room.
On a side note my grandfather also collected butterflies and moths. He kept them in glass cases with moth balls. His Indian artifact, butterfly, bird egg and waterfowl collection were kept in an old smoke house behind...
I guess I’ve been extremely lucky! I have around 40 big game and 80 or so waterfowl/bird mounts and have had no problems at all other than a few strands of turkey beards falling out although I think that was from my daughters cat swatting them. A couple of the waterfowl mounts date back to the...
It would probably come in like any other skin, fleshed and salted.
If finished taxidermy I would love to see the inspectors face when they opened that crate! A cobra with its hood out facing the top would be priceless.
Don’t know the legality of it but if you can import a croc why not a snake?
I would look into a quality reproduction over here. Several taxidermy supply companies advertise blanks for them. Just finding someone that could accurately paint one may be difficult but not impossible.
I’ve...
Since you mentioned a budget I would research going to the Eastern Cape, for the most part outfitters in Limpopo charge a little more than the ones in the Eastern Cape . That being said I’ve heard a lot of good things about Limcroma.
If you do look into the EC take a look at @GAME 4 AFRICA...
It looked like the first cow turned her head just before the first shot.
Great old lion.
I would never second guess Buzz, they obviously backed away for a bit but not long enough. I think I heard them say she was making some noise and they probably wanted to put her out of her misery.
As I have aged, iron sights are next to useless. Father Time has steadily but slowly taken my ability to utilize them.
There is also a generation of riflemen that may have never used iron sights, in my early years I killed a few fur bearers with irons but never any big game.
Not 100% sure James Brooks ever graduated, if we’re talking about the same James Brooks. But your point is well taken. In the early 80’s the NCAA started to take academics a little more seriously.
All of my shipments have been cleared within 2 to three days using Coppersmiths. All in Atlanta. Why a final clearing in Baltimore? I had 1 shipment that went on to Chicago and then to Michigan and they were treated as normal cargo.
@Philip Glass , that was outstanding, it basically followed my life’s progression on scopes for my DG hunting. I can’t afford the Swarovski but have the VX6’s. I also declined a shot at the biggest bushbuck I’ve ever seen due to the heavy crosshairs on the VX6 1-6, about 150yds is my max and he...
This probably needs to be a new thread but here it goes anyway.
Is getting taxidermy done in-house vs an established taxidermy shop make since? My one experience with in-house was pretty good. The taxidermist had worked at one of the big shops in South Africa and had taken a job with an...
