Blaser R8 is without a doubt the most accurate.22 RF I’ve ever shot. Eley Match is what I feed her.
I also have a CZ 452 which I shoot with open sights. She’s feed Winchester HP SS. Accurate enough for small game hunting.
Got to have a good play with a Tikka T3X in 308 win with a 16 “ barrel. The Kiwis refer to them as bush pigs. With a suppressor they are quite good. Actually I really like them.
The plates are at 100 yards. Probably a 6 or 8 inch diameter ?
I’ll be back next year.
Only a couple of more days and I’ll be heading home. No more hunting on this trip. I managed to get in a few hunts and an afternoon fishing.
Weather has been all over the place. Managed to work around it mostly. But, a fly in trip that I was hoping to get in didn’t eventuate due to weather. Oh...
I’m over in NZ doing a bit of hunting and socialising.
Went bush for a few days with the son. Primarily after chamois and a red if the opportunity presented. Weather was a bit hot but otherwise good. We hunted in Fiordland in one of the flattest areas I could find. We walked in and I think it’s...
I once shot a great 10 point red stag. I took the shot in the last minutes of day light. Range was around 200 meters and I took the shot standing. He dropped on the spot.
I marked the spot where I had taken the shot with toilet paper (unused) and then proceeded to bush bash my way across the...
Cost will depend upon what you want. I’ve been down this path before. I never intend to repeat it.
Either by a rifle with irons fitted or invest in a high quality QD mount system with 2 x scopes/ red dot fitted.
Scopes are easy to sight in. Much easier than mucking around with irons….don’t...
Welcome Tug. I’m also from Brisbane. If you want some practice with the 375H&H come along to one of the Big Game Rifle competitions at Belmont or Ripley. Hope to see you there one day .
Once you loose confidence in a particular firearm then it’s time to sell it and move on.
I once had a US Army M14 malfunction (some trigger part broke) whilst shooting at Quantico. However, I never lost faith in the M14’s.
Anything man made will eventually fail.
I went from a S&W model 10 in 38 Special as my duty weapon to a H&K USP compact and then to a Glock 19. If my life depended upon a handgun I would choose a Glock.
I’ve got Rigbys in both 375 and 30/06 and I’ve also got a few R8’s including the PH version with a 375 and 416 REM barrels.
So, whilst not exactly what you’re trying to compare but pretty close.
My advice would be that, if you already haven’t, you really need to handle the Heavy Safari model...
The rifles made on Monday mornings and Friday afternoons are produced especially for Mauser.
It should also be noted that I never let the facts get in the way of a good story.
I guess you’re right. I’m trying to balance fitness with finances. After each trip I reassess. I’m off hunting public land chamois and red in a few days. When I recover from that trip I’ll check out the knees and finances and reassess my priorities. .
40 ! …..oh to be young again. I had my first sheep hunt in my late 50’s. I’m now in my mid 60’s and have put off Africa until I’m too old for the hills.
You should buy the Rigby and enjoy it now. That way you’ll have one less regret to haunt you on your death bed.
If you were Australian you’d be called Gunna….. I was gunna do that and I was gunna go there. But, I never did.
The best venison I’ve ever eaten, both tender and taste, came off an old bull Canadian moose. It was back strap cooked in a pan with a dash of olive oil and seasoned with salt. That bull had been dead for around 48 hours.
Truely one of the best feeds I’ve ever had.
I’ve also eaten back...
Well I don’t really hate them but they’re certainly not for me and that is anything loaded with black powder.
Too much effort required to clean them properly.
I’ve been asked a few times if I’m a trophy hunter or a biltong hunter? Both and neither is my answer. I hunt because I love the adventure and wild places…well, that’s my best guess.
I was never a fan of illuminated reticules. Always thought of it as a gimmick. Then a few years ago I bought an Aimpoint H1 when I brought my first R8. I really liked the red dot. But still wasn’t a fan of an illuminated scope. Then I started using a mates R8 which was wearing a B2. I really...
I’ve got 2 Rigby Big Games. One is a DSB in 375 H&H with a 1-4 Kahles. The other is a SSB PH in 416 Rigby. The timber on both are very nice. I believe that both are grade 5 timber. The only difference I can pick between the PH and the standard BG is that the PH has no colour case hardening. Both...
I think that photo was taken to promote an Indian camp group or casino. It was probably the latest thing in advertising way back then before television. It must have worked because the idea is still being used.
Welcome Nails. I’m also in Brisbane. If you’re looking for some practice with your 375 H&H , or anything else, we shoot a Big Game Rifle competition at Ripley on the first Sunday of each month. Pretty fun and great practice with like minded hunters and shooters.
If you want details let me know...
Nothing here like your second amendment.
Yes, we are self governed. We have a constitutional monarchy. We share King Charles III with the poms, but he doesn’t live here .
Probably easier if you google it then have me try to explain.
If you lived here all your pump action and auto shotguns would have been in what you described as a pile of junk . Along with any semi automatic long arm.
You really shouldn’t comment flippantly on a subject that you know nothing of. It can be very irritating.
I hope you get to shoot your...
1996…..that was the year that I learnt to be very, very careful who you vote for.
That happened under a conservative government. I still feel betrayed and haven’t forgotten or forgiven.
